Clutch plates...

Anybody fitted an AP clutch plate? A shitpart one is £16 but I
would imagine you couldn't buy a clutch with more judder. Might
just go for a Borg n Beck....Any thoughts?

Try Blueprint. They do Jap crap. Oh wait... it's a Land Rover
gearbox .... I hope. LUK are good but pricey.

If it is just a five minuet job and your on a tight budget then
I would say give the blue box stuff a punt, but with something
you only want to be changing once maybe twice in the life of the
truck then quality is the only way forward, AP / Borg n Beck /
LUK are all about the same and the only ones I would buy, you
wont need to buy twice that's for sure.... £30 ish the last B&B
one I bought...

Don't buy AP - I had one, the anti judder springs went in 1500
miles from new.
I've currently got a Britpart one in(all I could get on the
spot), and in so far it's been OK, but I've no idea how long it
will last.
I'd got B&B but most places don't stock then...

In what stylee did you drive those 1500 miles?
I've just bought AP friction & cover plate for the TDI, - time
will tell.

I took an AP clutch out of a disgay that only lasted about
10000miles. The rivets had sheared and the spring wedged itself
into the plate. It hadn't been driven that hard or done much
towing.

But having said that Ive got an AP clutch in the series 1 and
would fit another when it wears out/ breaks up.

I've been happy with my Britpart one. Paddocks didnt have the
AP one in stock so it had to be a Britpart.
In for 3000+ so far with no judder/strangeness, despite a
dripping leak from the OEM crankshaft seal fitted at the same
type.

Frankly, it shouldn't be possible to drive the thing in a way
that breaks a clutch in 1500 miles, no matter what you do to it.
What I can tell you is there was so little wear, you could still
read the manufactures date stamp on the friction material's
working face when I took it off.
I was going to get one made up specifically for a tdi - series
gearbox splines, but events overtook me and I had to go out and
get the nearest one available which came in a blue box...
