Charge Light ...or lack of??

Thee could be a simple answer to this, so It could be a stupid
question.
First off, the battery isn't getting charged.............
........and whether its running or just with the ignition on,
there's no warning light ( but it definetly works cos it makes a
brief appearance every now and again).
So I checked the simple stuff, took the alternator off, shook
it,spun it, took the back off . Looks and smells ok but is it
duff and/or is there another wiring issue??
all advice gratefully recieved,
Nuggs ???

Mines a bit like this sometimes when I have the ignition on but
have not pressed the stater there is no light and sometimes
there is :-\
I have accepted this as a foible ;D its character and that (
thta is my excuse). If you get 14.5 volts across the battery
when the engine is revved, you can sleep easy................
:smile1
Another simple test is put the lkights on low beam revv engine
do the lights brighten up a little?

Apparently if I take the d+ wire of the alt and earth it the
light should come on. If it does there could be something wrong
with the alt. If it doesn't then it could be the wiring via the
starter and onwards back to the dash.
It could be just the regulator but the alt is off again and
going to be tested. No lighty means no chargey. ;D

is the alternator earthed to the engine ? making a clean
contact? if your alt cheeks out ok upon refit then this could be
something to think about too
