I've got one of these conversions now, simple, effective, neat
and tidy, and you get room for a massive radiator now that the
steering relay is gone. 8)

Oh, I say, old chap - rather a frightfully good job, don't you
think ;-)
Just out of interest, has anyone used the Disco steering box in
this sort of mod?
Just wondered as I've got a Disco donor still sat on the lawn!

Robin,
There was a fellow called Rob, on the old forum, that used Disco
power steering in his 109 'Big Blue'. He's a bit of a recluse as
far as Land Rovers and forumses go so I doubt you'll get
anything out of him but at least it can be done.
I saw the conversion and it looked quite tidy but there was a
lot of chopping and welding of the chassis involved.

Thanks Dave,
Sounds like the P38 box is the way to go then, if I feel weak &
helpless in the future ;-)
I don't mind the chopping & welding, but if the P38 is so easy,
it's probably not worth trying to make the Disco fit, though I
hate to see stuff go to waste :(

John Carroll used a Disco one in the rebuild of his Searle
featured in LRO. There was pics and everything......

The disco/RRC power steering conversion is massively more
invasive and irreversible than the P38 one, and slightly more
difficult to work on once fitted.
If you decided to go back to Armstrong steering later, with the
P38 box all you'd have left would be that plate welded to the
outside of the chassis rail, with the disco/RRC one you'd need a
replacement front quarter chassis. I've got a series 2 with that
conversion and even with all the bodywork on, it still doesn't
really look "right" from the front. :-\
