I know a farm where we could find a use for that.
Out of interest, any idea how it's steered? We were talking
about building a rubber tracked one from an old tractor, but the
steering problem (if we used a tractor chassis) looked the most
challenging...

It depends who made this conversion. It's in all likelihood only
a Ford skid-unit, the rest of the conversion being built by
another company; possibly 'Difco' or 'Barth GB' who were based
in Maplethorpe. Barth GB specialised in plant for drainage,
bog-work, etc.
Braking will probably be by 'disconnecting' one track from drive
and braking to steer that side; usually requiring plain crown
wheel and pinion rather than a diff, with a super-heavy duty
clutch and brake mechanisms on each side between the 1/2 shafts
and the drive sprockets.
Interestingly the unit doesn't appear to be articulated either,
suggesting the vehicle is designed for low speed use on flat (or
rather, even) ground. There's probably a reduction box between
the gear box and the rear axle, giving super-low ratios.
You could steer a home-made one using a conventional diff and
independent wet disc brakes, but you're likely to damage the
diff. Fitting smaller diameter drive sprockets will help due to
the resulting reduction in torque, but you will lose, err,
torque.

It's gay anyway. I remember when those peat mosses near Gretna
used narrow gauge railways!
