Mounting Inertia Reels

This might be of interest to a couple of people on here.
I remember a few questions on the old forum (and there have been
one or two on this one) about mounting inertia reels in a
series; I thought I'd share a rather simple solution of how I
repositioned the ones in my 109 this morning.
Initially it came with reels mounted on the bulkhead and a
seatbelt top mounting bar. This interfered with my gay high
back seats so it was ditched in favour of a big gay military
roll bar:

This top mount is fine for the high backs, but the seatbacks
would interfere with the belts coming out of the reels mounted
behind them making it difficult to reel the belts in and out:

Certainly you can get around this to an extent by using the
brackets that rivet onto the top of the bulkhead and hold the
seatbacks out by a couple of inches. However these have gone as
we need as much space as possible behind the wheel due to my
wife being a little on the tall side.
A rather elegant solution - which would work for hardtops and
truck cabs (in 109 flavour only) is to mount the reels down by
the outside of the seat bases. To do this you need the
following:

2x ADU710050 (the one on the left) and 2x MTC4090 (on the
right). ADU bolts to the chassis outrigger behind the fuel tank
that holds the front of the tub:

You offer it up from underneath, mark where the front hole needs
to be, drill it from underneath and then drill the other hole
from topside. Drivers side shown:

As you can see it lines up with the ouside edge of the seat rail
and is just over the outside edge of the underseat fuel tank (if
fitted). I did not have to drop the tank to do this because I
had done the nearside first and so could transfer the
measurements and drill both holes from above. It's then just a
matter of removing the outrigger mounting bolts and wiggling the
bracket into place - you need lots and lots of patience for
this, but it is possible.
MTC4090 bolts onto the two studs behind the seat:

And the reel bolts to the captive nut in MTC4090. I found it
easier to bolt the reel to the bracket first, and then bolt the
bracket onto the studs. Again it's very tight but it does all
fit and reel in and out nicely:

The belts now work nicely as they should. As I said this is
possible in a 109 due to the extra space behind the seats - I'm
not sure if you could do this with an 88 unless you did some
chopping around.

Liking that solution Doug :), my belts are trapped behind the
seats atm, if it will work with an 88 i'm going to move them
Have to have a look in the daylight

I just bought a set of these brackets as I'm in the same
position, need to fit inertia reels to finish the project. You
reckon they won't fit SWB's though? If not, has anyone got a
good solution for the swb reel mount as I'm needing to get this
done soon. Cheers :)

For you SWB owners, the SIII parts manual also has the L shaped
chassis bracket listed for "county" models under part number
NRC8524. As counties were in 88 and 109 flavour then you might
be ok. If you've already got the brackets then at least you can
offer them up and see what's what.

Yes, part number MRC8524 is now ADU710050 which are the ones I
bought on the basis of the county picture within the parts book.
I'll give them a try anyway and hope for the best. If they
work, then I'll have to buy the expensive MTC4090's to fit them
on.

Works very well, Niab ( 88) has that kind of configuartion but
reversed and as far as I know they've been there a long time. It
is possible that some chopping was done, but I don't have
another 88 to compare it to.
