Burnt Out Valve?

Just got my Landy back from the MOT...
Got a new and interesting noise that could be a blowing
exhaust...
But.
It's come with some fairly massive backfires from the exhaust on
the over-run. The timing is O.K. so I wondered if these new
chuffachufa-esque noise is a burnt out exhaust valve?
(Running a 2.6 six, so it's likely :( )

Have a good look over your exhaust, a half decent backfire could
have blown a weak spot. Start with the easy things and all that!

This one I burnt out on a 2 1/4 petrol - I lost all power after
this happening.

It wasn't very fast or economical after this happened... It did
still start on the handle though :)

Still no closer to finding out whether it's a valve or not...
(got compression meter on order though)
However today, a violent backfire (MikeLR109 was right all
along!) saw the silencer blown almost completely apart with
interesting consequences (A fuck off lot of noise mostly)
So now, it's like piloting a mal-adjusted Spitfire on the final
approach. Happy days. :banghead
