Yorkshire Overland Gathering March 31st/1st April 2012
By: strang Date: March 29, 2012, 12:30 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Anyone going to this:
The idea for the Yorkshire Overland Gathering come from
conversations with people who have an interest in overland
travel so here we go.
The Yorkshire Overland Gathering YOG will be a gathering where
overlanders can meet the people behind 4 x4 Overlander, Mudstuff
and Trek Overland. It is being kindly hosted by Trek Overland at
Lund Court Farm Nawton York YO62 7TZ.
It will NOT be a LR show in the normal sense of the expression
so no arena with dogs herding ducks etc. All three companies
will be sharing the same marquee, will be demonstrating their
vehicles, trailers roof tents etc alongside each others. There
is a possibility of a couple of other local companies joining us
as well
We will be displaying a map with local green lanes marked on and
state which ones will be suitable for shiny standard vehicles
and others which may not be so suitable for shiny vehicles. We
will also have a road based navigational scatter arranged.
Camping will be available at a local campsite. We will be able
to supply a list of local B & B's, hotels etc. There are many
local attractions including York and its attractions, Whitby and
its crabs, Castle Howard, lots of abbeys good ice cream parlour
plus restaurants and other attractions.
If you are interested in attending would you please register
your interest via email at info@4x4overlander.com.
This is just to enable us to gauge interest so that we can make
suitable arrangements for toilet facilites and hospitality etc.
If you have any suggestions to make please do so.
Well the Yorkshire Overland Gathering is definitely on for this
coming weekend 31st March/1st April.
The weather is forecast to be dry and sunny if maybe a little
chilly at night. Just bring an extra bag of wood to throw on the
braai come nighttime.
Camping will either be at nearby Cherry Tree Barn, Lowfield
Lane, Nawton, York, North Yorkshire, YO62 7RZ with normal
campsite facilities for about £10/night or if you prefer might
be able to arrange a spot of wild camping.
Two navigational scatters have been arranged which are tarmac
based so should be non damaging.
Some green lanes will be marked on a map. Some suitable for
shiney motors, others less so
Light refreshments will be available FOC, BUT (there is always a
but) alongside the tea urn will be a donation bucket for the
Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Feel free to come and join us at Lund Court Farm Nawton York
YO62 7TZ
I think a few S2C bods are going.

Yep, and a few 'bi' members as well
We're staying Friday & Sat nights - if you're going to be there,
make sure you come and see us in our 40+ year old Carawagons
which made it to the Sahara & back last year without any of the
kit they'll be trying to sell this weekend rofl
We're really just going for the crack - another chance for a
weekend away ;D
Cheers,
Robin.

the clam-shell types, but thats about all. Anyway, deffo coming,
but Mrs Strang thinks its too cold to camp, so we are staying in
a b and b in Hutton le Hole.....
I will come and see you carawaggoners though - are you having
any sort of display, photos etc of the trip? I might be able to
scrounge a couple of beers too... :giddy:

There will be just a couple of the original Morocco 2011
Carawagons, though John (Overlander) will be 'wild-camping' in a
folding caravan  in the field over the road with some
other S2C members.
We've been told we can set up a 'Moroccan encampment' next to
the display marquees, so yes, we'll have some pictures
blue-tacked to the Carawagons, the firepit will be lit in the
evening and one or two bottles may well be opened
See you there ;D

Just a thought... for those who are not local...
Nawton is not really anywhere near York, in fact it's nearly 30
miles away.
It's nearer Helmsley and Kirkbymoorside.
If you are thinking of going, and if your clutch is not 100%,
don't go via Thirsk
and the A170, Sutton Bank is a VERY steep hill!
Go via the A64 to Scarborough,
turn off at Barton Hill and take the Castle Howard Road, via
Slingsby and Welburn,
that's fairly flat and goes though some very nice countryside.
Sorry if I'm teaching my grandmother to cook eggs, but I'd like
you to make it :smile1

Well I reckon if you see one of those you have seen the lot ;D
Was it any good did anyone spend vast quantities of cash, I
reckon there will have been money burning a hole in some folks
pockets ;-)

I suspect that there would have been a lot of those silly
leather hats being worn and a car park worthy of a Barrymore
pool party.

Yes those dark brown leather Rogue hat things that denote too
much dispoable income spent. You get loads of them at Landrover
shows
( remember them ? ) they seem a little old fashioned these days
:-\

Well, as I said, I did go to look at roof tents - so as there
were a good few on display, it was worth it, but boy, they ain't
cheap are they? ALso there was a nice little display of
carawagons, displayed by RMS, Overlander John and chums. There
was also a group of all white modern boingies at the far end of
the field, but I kept a safe distance, and I also heard reports
of a proper, full on 'bitch' fight :handbag the night before!
Something for everybody really.........
Oh, and no ducks either! :smile1

Forgot to mention - not a leather hat in sight either - lots of
woolie ones though, as it was a bit chilly.
