S3 109 V8 CSW

Last year, I saw an advert for a Stagey on Ebay.
HTML http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/3697/20110711234411.jpg
I liked the look of it, it was cheap enough so I went for it.
Did a deal off Ebay to secure it, paid a deposit and set about
trying to work out how to get it home. Which was logistically
tricky. Oh, did I mention it was in Norfolk? As some of you
might know, I live near Durham City in the grim wastes of the
north.
Pics off the advert looked like this:
HTML http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/1604/dsc1192t.jpg
HTML http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/4167/dsc1191j.jpg

HTML http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/4063/dsc1193u.jpg
HTML http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/5490/dsc1197h.jpg
Tidy enough in the pics. OK so its a not very nice shade of
blue. It was built as pageant blue and thats where its going
again once I get enough time to repaint it. Doors and
bulkhead are all solid, theres a few patches on the chassis, the
engine runs OK, theres a gas kit mostly fitted and its on four
good tyres. Well, two of them are good, the other two are Avon
Rangemasters or some other ancient tread, and have actively
tried to kill me several times already. Its a lot of truck for
not a lot of money. Came with the back full of random spares
and tat, including the makings of a snorkel, the right air
intake, loads of clocks and dials, and a hi-lift. Amongst other
stuff.
So anyway, I borrowed a beavertail with just enough capacity and
set off down to go get it from Norfolk. I dropped a chassis off
on the way.

It was a long day, with a lot of driving. Although I got within
40 miles of chez Nat, time was an issue so I had no time for tea
and biccies. I looked wistfully to the east, waved a jaunty
hello/goodbye to him and then headed back oop north with my
booty:
Hardcore beaver action, no? A transit beavertail does not go
very fast with a ton and a half of Stage 1 on the back.
I got it back to my workshop late that night, went home and got
drunk.
HTML http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/6972/20110720215623.jpg
I awoke the next morning to go and play and found that there
were a few teething issues. Like none of the brakes working.
Neither diff being oiled or assembled correctly, the props
having siezed through piss poor maintenance and 101 other
previous owner annoyances.
The biggest annoyance being that the monstrous LT95 gearbox was
fucked. Not just noisy, but utterly unusable. Which wasn't
good. Particularly when the bloke I bought it off just didn't
bother to tell me it was fubar, even though he knew about it 2
years since (around the time he took the truck off the road).
Cheers for that mate. Nice of you to mention it. You twat.
Luckily, I had a spare box in a spare range rover I was given a
few years back, so I whipped that out, swapped the bits over
(details available if anyones bothered) and slapped it in.

HTML http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/63/20110729140012.jpg
Some rudimentary de-fagging went on so from this:
HTML http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/7868/20110721170642.jpg
We add some of this:
HTML http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/4095/20110721171448.jpg
To get this.
HTML http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/1789/20110721184242.jpg
The brakes, gearbox and associated previous owner bodges and
fuck ups, coupled with all the other stuff going on meant that
is wasn't until this morning that I managed to get it in for an
MOT.
HTML http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/8866/20110808093033.jpg
Which it promptly failed.
Arse. In fact, buckets of arse.
And then passed once I'd ground the fuck out of the shite
Britpart front shoes I was forced to use and both front wheels
turned freely. Anyone got an idea on where stagey/6-pot front
shoes can be had? Only one advisory, and thats the handbrake
which is a pass, but not as strong as the tester thinks it
should be. I fucking hate MOT's, I really do.
I then rushed out to put tax on it. Also to put more petrol in
it. It may need a tune up and a decent service, Ive been too
rushed getting it all ready for todays test to bother with such
niceties.

Thanks for reading. More pictures, questions and other stuff to
follow...
Oh yeah, nearly forgot...
Its absolutely fucking brilliant. Definite keeper. As
described by a journo called Kev: V8 leafer weapon.

The matching trailer tent may have to go, it a whole world of
CBA when it comes to putting it up.
Thanks for the kind replies though folks.
A newish shot to let folk know its out and about on a regular
basis. Went down the field to help the missus with some odd
jobs at the stables...

That trailer tent will be the death of me.
Todays little joblet was to bin the spare from the back door. I
made the executive decision that one on the bonnet would be
enough. Who really needs 2 spares?
To reveal the reason I'd left i on since I bought the beast...
HTML http://img857.imageshack.us/img857/8249/20120512131157.jpg
So out with the airtools (I love my compressor. Not in any
deviant kind of way, just they are awesome things to have
around. Providing you've got sparks and tools to run with them,
anyway, I digress) and out with the twenty bolts. Yes, twenty.
The quarter thick treadplate made a dent inthe tarmac when it
fell off. Now, I knew I was going to have a few holes left
after taking it off, but I hadnt really counted on finding a
door skin in this state...
HTML http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/2709/20120512135320.jpg
So, as my stocks stretch to one slightly worse rear door and one
catflap combo, Im going to be in the market for a new door come
next payday. Bugger.
