       A while ago I wanted one of those on a steering column-mounted
       bracket as per the early series 2s but it turns out the bracket
       costs an arm and a leg so didn't bother. How and where have you
       fitted the button, Allan?

       Mine has always had a right hand side "wiper motor cover" panel
       fitted. There are some other switches in that so that is where I
       mounted the horn push button. There is a bullet connector where
       the live wire disappears into the column so I used that to
       connect to the switch, the other side of the switch goes to
       earth. If I'm really trying I can operate the push button with
       my knee  ;D

       Dave,
       Are you running the air horns straight off the horn button or a
       relay?  I've no idea what the current draw of your compressor is
       but it may be more than your horn switch can take.  If so, it
       may be worth considering running it through a relay?
       The most likely issue is corrosion on the brass contacts of the
       switch which should be an easy fix with very fine wire wool (if
       there is bad corrosion, put some vinegar on a piece of kitchen
       paper and leave on the brass for ~15 minutes, wash off & dry -
       should get the worst off and you can then hit it with fine wire
       wool).

       It isn't running through a relay. If it comes to it I'll just
       stick two wires on the dash with tape and touch them together to
       make the horn work. It only needs to work the once for the test
       and after that it can go back to being an ornament for another
       year.

       Because the horns are used infrequently it is usually the
       sliding vanes that seize up in the compressor preventing the
       motor from rotating. As they are non original you should bin
       them and fit the correct squawking item.

       Dave, I like that idea!  I'm sure I've seen that method of
       operation employed mostly by the "old school" farmers!
       We just chucked a £12 trumpet type horn on from our local "motor
       factors" type place - loud enough but unfortunately quite garish
       in red.  Really want one of those klaxon type ones...

       funnily my compressor in the fire tender was fucked so took it
       apart today and its solid rust so i binned it, could do with a
       good one for the horns, where can i get one, not a shit small
       cheapo on though?
