Re: Dave's 88 and other Land Rovers

I don't have a garage, or even a drive, to work on. My job means
that I don't work defined hours and I have no idea when the
phone's going to ring and I have to go or when I'll be back. So
it's a bit off-putting to think that I could get all the tools
out and have to put them all away - possibly as soon as I've
got them out.
Also, I'm shit at doing mechanics and I derive no pleasure from
it so I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth the hassle for the
use it gets. I've used it a fair bit this year but not for doing
anything I couldn't have used the van for - no shows,
greenlaning or any Land-Rovering stuff at all.

Sit back & think of all the good times you've had in it Dave, do
you really want to give all that up? :-?

And just how much of an outsider would you feel at LATP, where
my self and 'Acid Queen' will be the showcase centre-piece
attraction, with no Leafer of your own to park along side and
take reflected glory from?
Absence of Leafer in personal fleet = outcast status and social
inadequacy. Scientific fact!

Well the way things are going I doubt it'll be sorted by LATP.
The rest of the list of stuff do do I can live withoutt but
brakes and horn are needed for the MOT. No MOT no Land Rovering.
It's bollocks really cos I drove it 250 miles last Saturday with
iffy brakes and no horn but rules is rules and if you haven't
got a bit of paper that says it was alright at that moment in
time then you can't use it.
The things I KNOW need doing are the horn, the brakes and a
sidelight.
The sidelight is a wiring thing cos it comes and goes. So it
isn't simply replacing a bulb.
The brakes - well every time I look into them I find something
else wrong. Currently it seems to be a leaking cylinder and air
in the system.
The horn sometimes works with a really hard press of the button
in the steering wheel but mostly doesn't work.
There could be all sorts of other stuff wrong with it but I
won't know until the man's gone over it and I've paid him the
best part of 50 quid for a bit of paper telling me it needs
fixing. :banghead

Right. Lob it in for test and get a fail sheet. Park it up at
home and decide what you want to do with it. I reckon a few of
us could descend on your gaff, twirl some spanners in various
directions, while you make yourself either scarce, or useful
(tea, chip shop runs, entertainment etc) We'll have it
retestable in no time, hopefully you'll have a few spares to fit
it, so we avoid stripping and waiting while the pikeys descend.
Horn button inoperative? Is it the copper contact on the slip
ring? You know what's up with your brakes, organise parts for
it..... you earn enough, go without a Macdonalds every day for a
fortnight, and you'll have enough cash to replace the full
braking system. I'll give you a day if you shut up fucking
whining. It's about time you learnt how to fix that motor of
yours..... You can't do fuck all much else properly.....
:finger:
Seriously, the offer stands. But for me, it's going to be June,
as I am in need of a diesel injection. Can you wait that long?

No more dodgy steering wheel connections.
