You change your mind a lot. It's like our front room, are you
       related to my wife?
I like the 'laning again' look.

Before the grey truck cab period it was a pastel green hard top
with signwriting on the doors. It was built as a
lights-in-the-wings style in Marine blue. I sometimes consider
returning it to that but I can never be arsed.
I think I'll be sticking with DBG for good now.

Here are other Land Rovers that I have owned over the years.
"Nelson" was, in a previous life, a Series 3 TACR1 airfield
crash rescue vehicle, operated by the Royal Navy at RNAS
Culdrose. When I bought it the "one ton" gearbox had been
replaced with a 2a box and the TACR bodywork had been replaced
by a standard tub. It is the only petrol-engined Land Rover that
I have driven, although I have owned one other but that was
       never roadworthy.

It was on 9.00x16 "Danubiana" tyres, which made it drive like a
bag o' shite. It was fun on roundabouts though... :o
I decided to convert it into a "trayback" and got a set of
cloverleaf pattern 9.00s, which made it handle a lot better but
I still didn't like to take it any faster than 45mph.

I sold it on to Westy after losing my storage for it. I think
it's changed hands a few times since then but I don't know who
has it or if it's still on the road now.

Only changed hands once, to Ginger Neil. Currently undergoing a
long term engine swap to 3.9 V8 and auto....
Played a starring role in getting Drew's new chassis from
       Britpart HQ to France.

       Here's one I bought off ebay. An S-plated series 3 88".
  HTML http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l5/soddit36/SSA42958.jpg[/img]
I paid £250 for it and Phil Gregson and I went to collect it
from Cambridgeshire. The seller was an ex US serviceman whose
wife was still in the USAF. The motor was on RAF Alconbury and
the seller met us at the entrance. We were shown into the
guardroom where this big yank soldier with a flak jacket,
assault rifle n all that shit wanted to see our ID. We had to
explain to him that this is England and we're not required to
carry identification papers so he had to make do with my
battered driving licence and Phil's works car parking permit!
;D We got in and loaded to motor onto a trailer and went.
I sold the overdrive off it to Vinny and took the tilt and
stickset for my own use before selling the motor to Phil. I
think it still exists somewhere. The panels on it were A1 but
the chassis was buggered and the engine misfired somewhat. Yes,
the only other petrol Land Rover I've owned.

And now we come to one I should never have sold...
This one was known as Sarah, for reasons that I know not. A 1962
2a that started life being owned by a garage in the Lake
District. I saw it on ebay and contacted the seller about going
to look at it. I went to look armed with a wallet full of cash
and a 4-wheel trailer. I had a nosey about and it seemed OK but
I didn't run it. The head gasket had gone and although this had
been replaced there was water in the oil. This was due to the
seller having run out of arsedness and he hadn't drained the old
oil. There was a bunch of reciepts for engine work, including a
rebore and a set of oversize pistons and rings. It had 9 months
test on it so I made the seller a cash offer to end the auction
and loaded it up and trailered it home. As bought it had a SW
hard top, spacky little tyres and some really shitty paint. I
put the 3/4 tilt on it from the ebay 88 in my previous post,
replaced the wheels and tyres with Michelin XZYs on 6.5 rims and
painted it RAF blue. It was a kwality buy and passed it's next
two MOTs for the sum total of £3.50 of parts.

  HTML http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l5/soddit36/c2c009.jpg[/img]
I later repainted it into Rail Blue.
  HTML http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l5/soddit36/SSA44987.jpg[/img]
Then one year it failed the MOT on chassis corrosion, which was
fixed for the time being but it's never the end. Once the rust
bugs are in they never stop. So...
  HTML http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l5/soddit36/DSC01284.jpg[/img]
I picked up that bargain for just £500. Richards galvy chassis
       FTW.
And prepared it as a complete rolling chassis, using axles from
a 109 that I acquired gratis and genuine parts NOS springs.
  HTML http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l5/soddit36/chassis001.jpg[/img]
Then an elite OLLR ninja squad was assembled to do this:
  HTML http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3w1f_VePNis&list=UUU6uu77InYstQbJeVNoZgcA
Early 2011 I was pestered to sell it and as I was thinking about
buying a 109 at the time I did just that. I should never have
sold it. It was completely sorted with new chassis, new brakes,
springs... True it needed a new wiring loom but it was probably
the most characterful and reliable Land Rover I've had. In 6
years of ownership it never broke down and never failed to
       start...

Correction - three petrol Land Rovers!
I first saw this one even before I owned a Land Rover of my own.
It began life as an ex-army 24volt FFR series 2a of circa
1968-71 and had only the one owner since being cast. He bought
it at auction in 1979 and used it daily but also drove it to
Egypt and back twice! The owner was a fellow who is into narrow
gauge locomotives and has one in his garage, in Leeds. I saw him
occasionally and one day he said that he wanted rid of his Land
Rover. I asked how much he wanted for it and he said "nothing,
just take it away". So I did, with the help of Quattrofoto
Steve. It had been stood for 9 years after failing an MOT so it
took some effort to get it onto the trailer...
The initial idea of saving it went by the by as I had neither
the facilities or money to restore it. In fact I didn't have
anywhere to park it! Besides, it was worth more dead than
       alive...

  HTML http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l5/soddit36/breaker004.jpg[/img]
It came with an overdrive that had done less than 15000 miles, a
set of tyres that had been fitted but never used (it was parked
on blocks so the tyres were fine even after all those years), a
set of springs that had never seen action, a pair of halogen
lights for driving on the RH side of the road, numerous spares
       and a spare overdrive!
A group of us, consisting of yours truly, Albert Ross,
Quattrofoto and Mark Yellow broke it over a period of 48hours.
Jim took the bulk of the parts, Tracey (anther) had the wheels
and tyres, I have the new overdrive, Quattro had the tub, Gadget
now has the engine in his 88, Rhubarb paul had the seats and
other OLLRers also benefitted from parts.
Jim willy had the roof and he still owes me £20 for that!
The chassis was to have been used under Mark Yellow's 109 but it
       was too far gone.
A sad end for a well-travelled motor but at least in death it
helped over 10 other motors to live on.
