Ex-Coastguard Series III
By: ChrisChallis Date: March 17, 2012, 11:05 am

1980 Series III, the faimly have been the owners after it left
the Coastguard in 1991/1992. Has been very much used on the last
20 years and it shows, but it has been reguarlly maintained -
usually every 5 years it gets stripped down and rebuilt.

About a year after passing my driving test it was due a major
refurb, so new bulkhead and a few outriggers where in order.

Then used on road and off road some more throughout my years as
a student

After uni it then became my daily driver in london, untill last
week.
Now it show be getting a little TLC and some paint (but not too
much!)

Hmm 1ton rims....

Cleared a ton of grime off the roof (before the hosepipe ban
kicks in) ready for a good sand and prep - time to go yellow I
think.
For the record Royal Blue is a pig of a colour to wash off -
gone a bit avatarish.

Was going to pm you asking what you'd done with the 1 ton rims
from the first pic.
Looks like you're keeping them. (??) 8) 8)

Very nice! I wish had the inclination to rebuild mine every 5
years!
Yellow you say..... it would certainly make a cracking Camel
trophy rep... then it would really stand out in London!

Cheers for the comments,
only the roof will be going yellow - well the closest delux do
to coastguard yellow. I really like the scruffy look, so I have
decided to compromise - Roof yellow, wheels blue, any new panels
that are the wrong shade of blue will be redone. Spent a few
hours sanding the roof today, barley made an impact :(
I hear what you say about a Camel Trophy replica, however I
would only build a 109 SW replica - mabey one day.

Started on the roof - 1/2 sanded and 1/2 painted, might take a
few weekends to get a couple of good coats on.

Well it rained later that day - so the roof lost a lot of its
shine, only the undercoat at least. Needless to say it would
appear the gloss paint is water based :(
Anyhow, 1 ton wheels on - quite liking the look, havent a clue
when i'll next get a chance to do the roof :(

Renew gearbox oil and replace transerbox cover with a rocky
mountain unit

Waterpump
Alternator (broke the replacement fitting it :( )
Repace drivers side wheel bearings
Replace bottom dashboard
On going battle with leaks
