Halogen Conversions - which one?

Bitsa's had a cheap set of halogens in since 2007, and last time
I went for an MOT the tester said they were borderline for
reflector rust.
Now, the MOT is fast approaching again, and I reckon I should
stick a new set in, as I'd be well hacked off if it failed on
anything so trivial.
The lights currently fitted are Britpart units, and I find them
fine lightwise, but the lifespan has been disappointing.
Looking at Paddocks, they currently list 3 conversion kits:
Wipac - £18.85 + VAT
Ring, with Xenon bulbs - £22.50 + VAT
Wipac Crystal - £27.91 + VAT
I'm a but undecided which way to go with this one. I do a lot of
driving in thick night-time fog and mist at the moment (the joys
of a 5.30AM commute over the Cat and Fiddle pass, where a good
day seems to be where I can see two cats eyes ahead, rather than
one), and as a result I tend to run on dip beam a lot as main
beam reflects from the mist itself so you can see even less.
The truck electrics has relay switching in the grill panel and a
direct feed from the alternator to the relays, so that should
all be pretty optimum.
I'm tempted by the Crystals, as they are all plastic and so
shouldn't suffer from reflector rust, but am a bit concerned
that they will both look rather out of place on the truck, and
that the more focused beam may make travel in mist worse rather
than better.
Any thoughts or experiences?
Also, anyone know where I can get the proper mounting rings for
holding the lights in the grill panel? It's got a bodge up with
series 3 plastic buckets in there at the moment, but that is
less than ideal, not least because it's near impossible to
adjust the aim...

I'm on my second set of Ring ones now; the first ones lasted 8
years (lights in wings) before rusting (I think the water can
get in in the extra hole for sidelights - the bung wasn't very
good). I don't use the Ring bulbs though, I have a set of
high-power white (not gay blue/white) ones from Hellfrauds. The
dipped beams are more than adequate - they are better than the
ones on SWMBO's Punto - and the main beams are really really
bright.
I would expect lights in the wings should suffer more from the
rusting problems than ones in the grille.

I've got the Rings on mine and I cant fault them - more than
enough light to see by on dark country lanes, even on the
standard bulbs that come with them

What's the lifespan like? They look nice, and sound like they
are bright enough (I don't really need more light TBH), but at
more than twice the price of the Wipac Crystals (those prices
I've given ^^^ are for a pair), I'd want to know that was the
last pair of light unit I was going to need to buy for a very
long time...

I've had mine on for a few years now with no signs of
deterioration, Glenn (S188) has bee running them on his
stationwagon for a while too and really rates them.
When i bought mine, I searched all over to try and find the best
7" lense I could get and these were those.
If you do a search for Cibies, I doubt you'll find any negative
reviews (other than that theyre a bit pricey.)

i bought a set from craddocks ( possibly ring but i wouldnt
gamble on the specific make )
cost £25 & they are more than suitabel for the job, ( again i
do a lot of night / fog driving & i am more than happy )

Wipac Cryastals and halfords top spec H4's are a really really
good combiantion. The clear glass does make a big difference and
these bulbs give a whiter light than the "normal" ones.
That is of course if you aren't worried about the appearence,
personally I value the extra seeign power more than asthetics on
this one!

Mine has wipac crystals and halfords H4 halogens, ive a bad
earth somewhere as the dipped gets intermittently brighter over
a run.
Great in fog. Id recommend them, they don't look too bad on the
front, or wont when I finally put the chrome headlamp rings back
on.
Bob by and have a peek when we sort that dipstick out if you
like, or ill run down to you, once I've done an oil change and
got the exhaust downpipe replaced.
But I really rate them.

I have wipec crystals too, again with Halfrauds H4 white
halogens. They are very very good. There is a bit of damage on
one of them at the bottom where I flooded it with Salisbury
plain and then let the sediment sit for a few weeks, but it
cleaned up really well.
I also have a set of Ring round fog lights and a set ring round
driving lights (that where fitted for the night stages on the
rally I recently did) and they do make a very big difference.
Having the different lens makes a bigger difference than most
people believe, and the clear lens of the W.C. is very good.
