All the chequer plate, spot lights, whitewalls and wellers will
be coming off

I could have just replaced the rear cross member but as I was
offered a half chassis on the cheap I decided to chop a bit more
off.

You will notice that a previous owner had replaced the cross
member and instead of lining the brackets up with the existing
holes, he drilled some new ones!
I kept the body on to help line up the new half chassis. I
intend to bolt it on before welding.
The next picture shows the ends of the chassis rails where out
riggers had been replaced at some point. I'm not sure how much
of the old steel I should hack off.

I'm going to have to cut an angle off the cross member flaps
away from the tub brackets. I still need to clean up the steel
in readines for the weld.

Here is the offside as seen from the passenger door.
Any suggestions on the best way to weld these flaps to the
chassis? Would cutting an angle in the flap make the weld
stronger? (I read this somewhere)

I need to do some bits and bobs to the chassis before I fit it
like painting it and adding the bump stops.
The bump stops were these extra long things(?) which I was going
to replace with new ones purchased from Paddocks.

The brackets for the old bump stops don't seem to be any use for
the new ones. How are the smaller bump stops attached to the
chassis?

A colleague of mine has offered to lend me his welder and he
will teach me to weld. He'll weld the chassis on too if
necessary. I'd rather buy my own however as I don't like
borrowing expensive kit. I have access to co2 so I'm on the look
out for a cheap mig that is powerful enough for a chassis.
Meanwhile I stripped the hubs. Have a look at these stub axles
and tell me if the land piece needs replaced. I'd rather not cos
I'm lazy but if the hub seals are going to leak then I might as
well.

Managed to get a couple of the spring bushes out after much
battering and swearing.

Do you just have to welly the new one in or is one supposed to
use a puller? Maybe I should get poly bushes.

Had a go at the leaves as well. Loosened the centre bolt and
prised open the leaves. Is this chain wax any use for lubing in
between?

Time for an update -
New lands fitted to rear stub axles

After much welding practice I grasped the nettle and welded on
the half chassis.

Springs cleaned up, greased, painted and new bushes fitted.

Lots of flap disking and painting of brake, axle and suspension
parts.

New diff gasket and hub seals, breather unblockified, add some
paint. Pic is the right way round in photobucket but not here
for some reason.

Reassembled with new shocks etc.

She rolls! Lots of degaying still to be done. Note it hasn't
collapsed in the middle yet.

Refitted the tank and with some fuel bleeding and priming she
finally awoke after 8 months of sleep. Still smoking like a lum.
Now I'll get on with the front bearings, brakes and suspension.
Oh, and the brake pipes - something else I've never tackled
before.

Some latest pictures of my oller education in degayification.
I have 16" steel rims painted limestone and awaiting affordable
rubber. Meanwhile I painted the gayspokes and white walls black.
Still looks crappy on the wee 15 inchers.
Notice also I've removed the checkered plate from body and
bumpers and the spot lights.
