British Rail Blue days

I bought several dozen slides, from a shop, about 25 years ago.
They seem to have been seconds from someone's collection and
most seem to have taken round the East Coast Mainline in
Yorkshire but some locations are unknown to me. They are all
from the period when the railways were still proper railways,
with proper locomotives and they were all painted in the BR
corporate blue, unlike the gay plastic trains that you find
today, covered in so-called TOC "liveries" that look more like
they came out of works pre-painted with graffiti.
Smell the nostalgia and the diesel fumes...

dont you just miss seeing the deltics going up and down
everyday. that was favorite OO engine aswell.

Photo 4 looks like Goose Hill Junction at Normanton where the
Midland to Oakenshaw North Jct and the Land Y to Kirkgate used
to diverge. That is before the then Fascist Tory Junta started
to de industrialise the whole of Yorkshire and close rail links
we could do with getting back.
Nice Deltic shots number 6 could be exiting York south of
Dringhouses just before Chaloners Whin jct. thta used to be the
junction for the London line before the 83 selby coalfield
diversion.
I demand you post the rest!!!

on any diesel events this year? We're planning on doing the
KWVR, and maybe the ELR and NYMR do's.

That's a proper good pickcha...the kind I recall seeing in the
latter days of BR during my time on there in the late 80s/early
90s.
Big loco with a proper rolling-stock set behind it, chuffing up
the inner fast line (be that up or down).

Right then! Here are some more. I've added extra information for
the non-railway nuts so no one can say that OLLR isn't
edyukashonal. :smile1
BR/Sulzer type 4, known as Class 45 from 1974 onwards when
British Rail introduced computerisation to keep track of every
item of rolling stock. The system was (and still is) known as
TOPS - Total Operations Processing System. Each class of
locomotive and recieved a two-digit TOPS class number which was
followed by a three digit number that identified an individual
locomotive in each class. Location unknown.

A pair of English Electric type 1 or Class 20 locos at on a
train of 16-ton mineral wagons at an unknown location in Feb.
1975. I have a feeling that it's somewhere in either Derbyshire
or Nottinghamshire. The class 20 had only one driving cab and
usually operated in tandem with another of the class. Only one
driver was needed due to a system of electro-magnetic controls.

Doncaster, June 1977. A class 47 on a coal train made up of
hoppers (coded HAA under TOPS). These hoppers were introduced in
1966 to speed up operations. They were fitted with air brakes,
unlike the wagons in the previous pic that had no brakes, and
ran trains that required no shunting at either the colliery or
the power station. The train would be loaded from an overhead
bunker whilst on the move (under 5mph) and would be similarly
emptied on the move at the power station. Note the English
Electric Class 50 on the left - this would be awaiting attention
at Doncaster Plant, which is out of shot on the left.

An unidentified location with an unidentified English Electric
type 4 or Class 40 on a train of BL Shite from Longbridge,
mostly Allegros. October 1977. Note the single decked flat
wagons that offered no protection to the cars. Today car
transporters are double-decked and have sides to protect the
cars from vandalism en route.

Interesting pictures Dave. :thumbs:
The car transporter reminds of the days of 'motorail' , when the
folks used to put the car on or in a train at Inverness to get
it to Euston or St Pancreas, whilst we travelled either in the
same train as passengers or a seperate one or the sleeper.
I suspect those big old diesel locos where a tad more reliable
than a morris traveller or BL Maxi over that journey and I
don't rememeber sticking/burning to the seats of a BR passenger
train ;D.
