Ah, someone else with a 1980 109 with added six pot goodness...

Looks good! Mine started off as a SW too, I'm quite jealous.
Can't help thinking by 1980, it must have been an oddity, a
1950s saloon car engine still being put into a vehicle?

Especially as the V8 was on stream by then. I wonder if they
were special order - or ordered by a supplying dealer several
months beforehand? The waiting list was huge at that time.
There were a number of strikes at the BL engine plant at Acocks
Green in 1979-1980 which severely restricted the supply of V8
engines so maybe some customers took what they could get.

Industrial Action at a BL plant? :)
Perhaps they were trying to keep the V8 for Stage One stuff,
sub-consciously steering customers toward their newer products?

Cheers for the replies all! No work yet today, been tending the
veg patch!
Boris, what is yours now, if not a station wagon?
I'm in love with the 6 pot engine suddenly. Got it running for
the first time a few days back, and with only half an exhaust it
sounds great.
I've got the time to deal with rust, as well as a box of scrap
bits of sheet, hence the repair rather than replace approach to
the arse end.
I wasn't aware the tyres are fun on wet (or dry??) They look
classic enough anyway, shame the same can't be said of the
wheels.

Looks like a brave weld-a-thon! Lovely motor though - I would
love a 6 pot station wagon someday.
