A warning......

....always remember to measure a million fucking times from
tacking up to completed welding.....or, like me, you'll be
cutting off the rear of the chassis that you just spent a whole
day preparing, sleeving, welding and grinding on....the bloody
thing had moved about 1mm from tacking to welding, and I didn't
notice till I'd finished.....the worst bit was that a 1mm
movement at the joint translated to a 3mm mis-alignment of the
suspension mounting :banghead :banghead :banghead
...what a stupid fucking :wanker: I feel!!! rofl

3mm is well within Land Rover tolerences, isn't it?
At least you didn't measure, cut, then find you cut it too short

Almost definitely! Once it's tacked it can't move anywhere
untill you start putting heat into it with the weld.
3mm is fuck all on a land-rover anyway, I've been measuring
chassis recently to make 80" bulkheads at work and I can't find
two chassis or bulkheads alike! :eek:

Can't imagine you would see it crabbing down the road if it's
only 3mm out. The half chassis I bought wasn't square but after
welding it on I just pulled it squre and bolted on the tub. Must
have been 4mm out at the rear cross member.

...I've just finished preparing it to go on again....and this
time I'll be welding it s-l-o-w-l-y as well as all the normal
measurements and checks ;D........wish me luck!
(I couldn't just leave it....it looked wonky to me... :haha: )

Just done the gearbox xmember on WSL. Used the marks from the
old to line up with,still had to use trolly jacks to get the
bugger to sit flush to the chassis :confused:

Gadget, I can't help with the gear box but can get you access to
Stueys stuff in the garage holler if you need owt!
