Rich P and his 2 n'quart diesel timing marks...

       Rich P:
I'm trying to check for a worn timing chain, and also to time
the pump up properly. Why can I only find TDC, 13 and 14 degree
marks on the flywheel? Everything says I should be able to see
15 and 16 or at least 16 degrees as well?
       Nuggett:
If that is all thats is definetly there then it goes to 13? What
       year is your engine?
I'm sure mine only had 2 marks but which I can't remember.
       RichP:
I don't know what year the engine is as it's not the factory
engine for my Land Rover - that's sat in the garage.
The engine number for this 2.25D that's fitted is 27101349. No
suffix letter visible even after cleaning.
       'Triple H'
       Rich, from Glencoyne website
       271xxxxxx Series IIA diesel 2286cc
       RichP:
Yeah but that spans like 10 years of production.
Just been browsing the S2C timeline. It mentions engine no.
27102760A for 1962, does this now suggest the engine (or at
least block) I have here is 61/62?
Is this why it is different in the timing marks?
       Nuggett:
You've got the haynes ( confusing as fuck) diesel manual?
       RichP:
I have the 1969 LR Workshop Manual, and also the Haynes one
stuffed away somewhere as I have always used the LR Workshop
       Manual.
       Nuggett:
Look at this, see if sheds any light. You want to go to the end
of this document , at about page 19.18 and the next.

       />
I can't help you as I can't remember what marks mine had last
       time I set it up.
       Regards
       Rich
       ( Haynes larks on about 16degree marks, 14 and 16, 15 . But it
does say if it only has 13 and 14 set it to 13. )
       RichP:
Fantastic, the diagram matches what I have on my engine. I guess
it must have had the S3 flywheel fitted at some point in its
       life. Cheers!
