Engine cutting out when prolonged climbing or descending hills

Hi I'm looking for advice on where to start looking to resolve
the issue of my engine cutting out when going uphill or downhill
for prolonged period of time e.g.
- crawling into Brighton at the end of the L2B
- parking on a slope and not being able to restart
When my wife broke down a few weeks ago some helpful mechanics
checked the plugs for signs of flooding and found them dry so I
suspect gunk in the fuel system somewhere.
Any ideas on where to start looking - most likely source of the
issue
Am I barking up the wrong tree on gunk? Could it be air?

Does the six pot have a glass bowl (water/sediment seperator)
just before the mechanical fuel pump?
Worth a look?

6 pots have electric fuel pumps. I would take a look at the fuel
pickup pipe in the tank. Go via the floor plates in the tub.

take the tank sender out and have a look at the little filter on
the end of the pick up pipe - odds are it is blocked ???
wash in clean fuel and blow dry with airline :)
let me know how you get on ....(mine stated life as a six pot-
now 2.5TD)

Thanks all. I'll start at the fuel sender. Unfortunately no fuel
sediment bowl.
Will also take a look at the filter in the fuel pump - although
I'm struggling to find a replacement gasket which is recommended
to replace when cleaning out the filter.

How would I know? It idles well and responds to cold start via
the choke.
I read that it should be set to 16-17mm but I'm not sure what
this refers to.
Hopefully when I take it out tomorrow it will be obvious...
