       hi folks
iam putting my gearbox back in my 88 station wagon this weekend
after its been sat in the barn for 18mths until the chassis was
       ready .
i noticed tonight that there is an oil leak from the main shaft
that is running down the inside of the bell housing . i guess
this needs a new oil seal or something has dried out in there .
how hard is it to replace this oil seal ?can i do it or is it
one of those special gearbox job
       cheers
       gareth

Up to about 1970/71, there was no seal to the front of the
mainshaft, it relied on a scrolling machined section on the
input shaft to prevent oil dribbling out. No good for pointing
downhill. What year is your gearbox? 2/2a/3 type?

Hmmm. Have you had it stored standing on the bellhousing?

This post is getting old but i thought id put my 20c worth in.
There is a seal in the bellhousing input shaft cover. Sorry if
the terminology is incorrect. Look in the bell housing, Unbolt
the cover(about 5 screws from memory), slide it back off the
input shaft, turn it over and voila, theres a seal there.
Mines a 1974 SWB with a suffix C gearbox. Mine had one. Donk
