       To: Francisco Franco of Spain,
We have heard the news of the recent assassination attempt and
express our greatest hopes that no such crime shall happen
again. Italy will, of course, be providing assistance to stop
the insurrection of rebels. As they have already been quashed
once before, we have no doubt that they shall easily fall again.

As tensions mount in the West, the fever of war is rising in
Moscow. Several days of riots and demonstrations have shaken up
the populous, making them ask the question, "Should we join this
       fight?"
In his bedroom, meanwhile, Joseph Stalin slept, contented.

King Peter was sitting with his general and asked him
"We now control area around the Skadar lake and most of north
Albania but I'm afraid that the Albanians will start a
rebelion. We must put some of our army in Kosovo so that they can
move to Montenegro and Macedonia in case Italy or Bulgaria
attack us or the Albanians start a rebellion."
"Yes sir we will move out forces from Sandžak to Kosovo."

       3.5.1939
Albert Lebrun makes a speech in front of the National Assembly
Building, on the Palais Bourbon. He licks his lips, this being
one of the most important and radical speeches he's ever made.
But, he is confident that this will please the majority of his
citizens, ensuring his reelection. He looks over to the press
box, full of reporters from the major publications in France.
Good; the more people to hear his message, the better. He
addresses the crowd: "Good afternoon." He waits a moment, then
       dives in.
"For our protection, we must support the rebels in Spain. It
does us no good to have a fascist country to our south. We also
must protect the rights of the people of Spain. As it is, they
are suffering under a dictator who doesn't represent them. He
came into power militarily, and he will only come out of power
militarily. This is an opportunity to spread historical French
liberation and freedom to our neighbors to the south. This bill
I have in my hand authorizes me to send troops in through our
colonies in Africa to the Republican-supporting region of
Eastern Spain. Help us, citizens, to rid ourselves and our
friends of this terrible oppression. Thank you!"
Lebrun walks off the stage and back into the National Assembly
Building. The people in the square mill about, discussing this
new decision from the normally conservative government. The
nationalists are glad that France is taking an active role to
become great again. The socialists are somewhat disturbed at the
military action, but are glad that democracy might be restored
in a neighboring country. The only group that is unhappy is the
shrinking number of conservatives, who are opposed to
intervention. However, they don't mind as much because the
decision came from Lebrun, a normally quite conservative leader.
Overall, the mood in the square is that of excitement.

       3.10.1939
       Hitler was not pleased.
He paced back and forth across the floor of his parlor in
Berlin. It was clear that Francisco Franco would need help to
survive the onslaught; he had just received a call from his
spies in Paris that the damned Republic had mobilized to assist
the Republican rebels once again. It was clear that his aid last
time had not sent a clear enough message; the only force that
could be appreciated by any would be direct force. He picks up
the phone and dials Wilhelm Keitel, the man who was more or less
war minister, followed shortly by a call to Francisco Franco to
tell him help was on the way.
       ------------------------
All is quiet on the eastern coast of Spain, the stronghold of
       Republican Spain
       Then, all hell breaks loose.
The beaches are bombarded by Germany's luftwaffe air forces, and
not soon after a direct beach-head is established by the
Wehrmacht itself. German forces advance on the beach; the
subjugation of Repubican Spain had began.
       ------------------------
A strongly worded letter arrives in Paris; more or less, it says
       this:
       To Albert Lebrun,
You are to stop your meddling in Spain at once. There has been
enough chaos and bloodshed; the Nationalists are the true rulers
of the peninsula, and have the right to remain so.

       Albert Lebrun
       To Hitler:
I want you to understand me, but please know that we will not
stop. We want only to liberate Eastern Spain. It's like you
wanted to do with Poland. We want to liberate the people who do
not like Franco, and only those people. We'll stop when we get
to the territory completely under the control of Franco. In
Poland, you wanted to release the German people under Polish
control. I hope you see the situation as we do. Let us liberate
       them.
       Thank you in advance,
       Albert Lebrun
       [hr]
French troops in Africa sweep through Spanish Morocco and invade
Spain through Gibraltar to relieve the Republicans from the
German assault. However, the army has been given orders to
fortify the Republicans, but they are not to engage the Germans
until the response from Hitler has been received.

"The German people will not surrender from this fight. Spain is
rightfully Nationalist; it is time you stop interfering."
The German invading force in Spain refuses to back down; they
form a defensive line along the occupied Republican territory,
refusing to allow the French to proceed. The situation is tense,
and a spark could light it all off any second. German tanks and
infantry line up on the borders of Poland and France; indeed, it
seems like Hitler might be planning to punch through the Maginot
       line...

The French troops also see an escalation of military power, both
in Spain and along the Maginot line. The government fully
expects war to break out at some point, but is still holding out
with the hopes that Hitler will come negotiate a deal.
       inviter. Puis-j'inviter Stalin?
       To Hitler:
We see now that the war is likely. But I think most of Europe
does not want us to fall into war. Before doing things we may
regret in the future, I invite you to go to Paris to negotiate
the Treaty of Versailles and Spain. Specifically, I am prepared
to give you back the colonies we cruelly stole from your empire
on behalf of the allies. I hope you see that you can gain a lot
by this meeting. We will make our arguments and I hope that we
shall understand each other better before the end of the
       conference.
In hopes that you will be patient,
       Albert Lebrun
P.S. I invite you to bring any other leaders you want to invite.
       May I invite Stalin?
(Again, sentence structure is a bit clunky, but I don't know
enough French to write eloquently; I only know how to get my
       point across.)

If the dates hadn't got all screwy , it would be about May 14. I
was also trying to keep to the European way of writing it
(thanks for messing that germany you stupid Nazis). So everyone,
move back to mid-May and do European dates.
