United 1908 2 v Gyergyoi 3
GYHK went into the last game of the season with more than an
outside chance of somehow making the playoffs. Many will argue
that after the dire start to the season and the apparent lack of
interest in the early weeks of the season from manager MikeM,
that to squeeze into the playoffs last minute would be unjust.
As it was, the runaway league leaders decided to go easy on
Tranmere after going 4-1 up and eventually surrendering them the
point they needed to clinch a playoff place.
Good game on the whole, United 1908 are another good side who
when on form can surprise a few teams. GYHK top scorer Zsolt put
Gyergyoi ahead on 5 minutes only to see 1908 equalise a minute
later and to be honest dominate the whole first half. The 2nd
half was a different affair, and mid-half Gyergyoi's dominance
was rewarded with a great goal again from Zsolt. A strange
tactical decision from the GYHK bench quickly resulted in Illyte
getting the equaliser for 1908 and it was game on again. More
Gyergyoi pressure followed but didnt look like they were going
to break through the tough 1908 defence. Eventually, a hopeful
long ball from Sarpatki, found Orban and his bullet header
claimed the points. Gyergyoi supporters went home happy but
frustrated, wondering what could of been in a season that took
weeks to get going (the side were 2nd bottom for much of the
season). Onwards and upwards, and a full Ice Hockey season in
Erste Liga to look forward to over winter

Well, well, well!
We went into this game with a chance to take the title for the
second time, depending on the results of other teams.
The first 15 minutes was a bit like a basketball match with both
teams taking it in turns to attack but failing to have any
cutting edge until the 12th minute when we took the lead.
Tallehasse picked the ball up just outside Pompey's area and
with a quick turn made space for himself to fire the ball past
James. This seemed to spur Pompey into action and they dominated
the next 10 minutes and eventually found an equaliser through
ex-Nerrad player Merryfield. Amsalam gave away a free kick on
the edge of our area and Merryfield (Pompey manager's namesake)
blasted the ball into the net to make it 1-1.
Two minutes later however Pompey had to replace their number 1
after he suffered a groin strain.
It was now Nerrad's turn have a period of domination and it
culminated in the away side taking the lead for the second time
when van Oist managed to cross the ball from the bye-line for
Nick Cope to get on the end of and despite sub keeper Pillerman
getting his hand to the ball he couldn't prevent it from going
in.
After the restart Pompey seemed to be on a mission and spent the
first 10 minutes keeping the ball away from the Nerrad players
and creating a few chances and eventually Crouch cut inside from
the wing, evaded a challenge from LeMar Ricky before levelling
the score with a well placed shot. Just a minute later they were
unlucky not to take the lead when Postelos crashed a shot of the
Nerrad crossbar and straight form that the away side broke and
got themselves back in front. LeMar Ricky evaded two defenders
before passing the ball to Tallehasse who's shot managed to beat
the keeper's dive to give Nerrad a 3-2 lead.
The game took a slight dip with both teams passing the ball
around without really creating any chances but in the 69th
minute the scores were level once again when a bit of pinball
allowed Godi Sanchez the chance to score and even his shot took
a deflection off a defender before going in. This sparked a more
attacking approach from Nerrad and their pressure told in the
79th minute when Tallehasse completed his hat-trick, Brooming
providing the assist. A few minutes later Asayag missed a
glorious chance when he put his shot over after pouncing on a
rebound from the keeper's save and as the game went into injury
it looked like Nerrad had taken the 3 points and the title but
the season provided one final twist!
In the 91st minute Pompey launched the ball forward where
Sanchez headed the ball onto Crouch just outisde the Nerrad
penalty area and he blasted the ball at goal. Uzbaezanov made an
enormous effort to save the shot but the ball flew past him only
to smash against the crossbar. Fate then conspired against
Nerrad when the rebound hit the keeper on the back and went into
the goal to give Pompey a last second equaliser!
The game finished 4-4 and results elsewhere meant that the title
was just beyond our grasp and it left the Nerrad players laying
on their backs on the pitch reflecting over what could've been.

Not quite the birthday present that manager Dave Rosewell was
hoping for, as Golden Eagles FC's hopes of winning the division
1 title were dashed by Manchester United. They were beaten 1-3
at home, despite being the best side, but Peter Schmeichel in
the United goal was pretty much unbeatable with 16 saves.
Eagles were down 0-1 down after 15 minutes to Eric Franssen's
lucky goal, as Petter Andrewsen was left flat footed from a
deflection. Pavel Chernyshev equalised in the 29th minute with a
diving header. The Russian then had a spot kick saved in the
36th minute, after a reckless challenge on Darío Bourrin.
United then re-took the lead against the run of play in the 65th
minute after a mistake from Andrewsen saw Eric Cantona's shot
squirm through his legs. Eagles threw everything at United for
the final 25 minutes, but they where thwarted at everything turn
by Schmeichel. Eric Franssen scored his second of the match in
the 90th minute, putting the final nail in Eagles title hopes.
Absolute Heartbreak!
Dave Rosewell commented "we poured a lot into this season and we
have worked so hard. However, again when it mattered we just
couldn't get the result despite being the better team and we
gave away 2 cheap goals. It hurts to lose in this way, it hurts
even more that we only finish 4th. But we'll be back better and
stronger for next season. That being said, I would like to
congratulate Darlington All Stars on their tile win, they have
been the dark horses of the season and have gotten the results
when it really mattered."

Reykjavik Reapers, who were for the most part fielding a B side
against Tranmere Titans let a 3 goal lead slip as the hosts
fought back to draw 4-4. The point sees unmanaged Titans secure
a play-off spot, which was pretty well deserved after an
impressive first season. The point for Reapers also sees them
extend the final gap over the rest of division 2 to a record
breaking 16 points.
Reapers were 3-1 to the good in a frantic opening 9 minutes with
goals from Enzo Julliene and 2 from Bryan Prittwick, with
Campari Torr pulling a goal back (before Prittwick's second).
Then Revaz Arakishvili made it 4-1 in the 15th minute.
Titans' top scorer Mario Javez pulled another goal back in the
29th minute before Johan Moller made it 4-3 in the 67th minute.
It looks as though Reapers may hang on to all 3 points, but
Jiang Zuya got himself sent off 12 minutes from the end after
punching an opponent. Titans made the man advantage count with
Torr grabbing his 2nd of the game a few minutes later. It was a
crazy game from start to finish and certainly 1 for the neutral.
The next day in Reykjavik, Reapers were handed the division 2
trophy and celebrated with their fans. It was the 2nd time that
manager Dave Rosewell had won it with 2 different teams (with
Golden Eagles FC last season). Of course their season isn't over
just yet, with the League Cup final against Rael Nerrad coming
up next week!

Darlington All Stars 3 - 1 Robbaillie Escocia
We went into this match on a three way tie at the top of the
league but in third on goal difference.
We knew our chances were limited as the other two teams have a
far superior goal difference so we had an outside small hope of
the title but ultimately looking to get our highest finish in
the league.
This was an odd match in that our opponents went D from the
start but after 26 mins we got a break through to take the lead.
We then changed our tactic and that was a big mistake as it let
our opponents back in with an equaliser right before half time.
Knowing are opening tactic was better we switch back and again
it worked getting us the lead again just after half time. The
big question then was could we hang on for a win? However ten
minutes later we got another goal to give us a cushion and took
that to the final whistle.
After the game I fully expected we had finished third on goal
difference and got the shock of my life when I looked at the
table to find the other two had not got the result and we sat
top two points clear.
Winning the title with a late surge is a total shock and
probably more so on our two rivals who slipped up. I will say in
our defence though is we try to win every game and don't go
looking for draws and it shows in that we have the most wins
this season and fewest draws. We tend to win or lose and while
we don't score great numbers we do have a solid defence and
don't leak too many.
A terrific season for us in the end.
