Golden Eagles FC managed to keep pace with Sarnians as they beat
Pompey Chimes away in a close, hard fought 2-1 victory. Darío
Bourrin opened the scoring for the visitors in the 12th minute,
after picking up Diog Guillems flick on and his shot looped over
David James int he Pompey goal. Their lead was doubled in the
52nd minute, as Pavel Chernyshev found space on the edge of the
box and unleased a lovely long range shot. That is the Russian's
23rd of the season.
However, 2 minutes later, Darren Anderton got a goal back for
the host, as I. Merryfield played him in and there was little
Petter Andrewsen could do in the Eagles goal, 2-1! It set up a
very tense 30 or so final minutes, as the game got a bit
scruffy. Rodrigo Desábato was left kicking himself, after
squandering a glorious chance to double Eagles' lead again. He
rounded the keeper int he 80th minute, but put his shot into the
side netting.
Artem Poltorak was lucky not to be sent off on his return from
injury, as he hacked down Peter Crouch 3 minutes from time,
although his yellow card does see him receive a 1 match
suspension. Thankfully the final whistle went not long after
that and Eagles secured the 3 much need points. Diog Guillems
received the man of the match award, as the number 11 was pacey
and caused all sorts of problems for Pompey.
Eagles stay 4 points behind leaders Sarnians, after their win
over Manchester United. While Kyushu Yakuza, Rael Nerrad and
Darlington All Stats are a further 2 points behind. It is
getting very close at the sharp end of the season with 4 games
to go and 6 points separating 1st to 5th.

Reykjavik Reapers secure the division 2 title with 4 games to
spare, with a 3-0 win over 2nd place Thames Ironworks! Reapers
dominated the game with 74% possession and 26 shots on goal, to
Ironworks 4 shots. The visitors were set up some what
defensively with a 5-1-2-2 formation, but still controlled the
middle of the park and were dangerous on the break.
Costa Rican striker Mariano Bernard got the ball rolling in the
11th minute, as his snap shot from a loose ball in the area beat
R. Huolier in the Ironworks goal. Both he and Hannes Gunter were
unlucky not to grab a couple before half time, but the French
keeper was putting on a master class in keeping after conceding
the early goal.
Ironworks just could capitalize on their keeper's performance
however, and the game really went a away from them just after
the hour mark following a triple change for Reapers. As Bernard
turned provider for substitute Raczka Popovi and the Greek
attacker scored with pretty much his first touch of the game.
Huolier was really let down by his defenders there and he gave
them a deserved ear-bashing for falling asleep.
Worse was yet to come, as 2 minutes later another sub found
himself on the score sheet. Georgian winger Revaz Arakishvili
latched onto Vilo Fleuss' long pass and unleased a thunderbolt
from outside the area, 3-0. These two quick fire goals really
knocked the wind out of the host sails and chances were few and
far between for the final 30 minutes, as Reapers took their foot
off the gas with a game against Kyushu Yakuza in the league cup
on Wednesday. Mariano Bernard's goal and assist and hard work
saw him awarded with man of the match, great stuff from the
young centre-forward.
After the match manager Dave Rosewell commented "It is a great
feeling to seal the title with 4 games left to go, it didn't
look like this was going to be possible only a month or so ago,
but we have worked hard and the results elsewhere have given us
a boost also. We don't have much time to celebrate though with
the league cup in a few days. The boys know that once the season
is done, we can then celebrate properly."

Sarnians 5-2 Manchester United
This was an absolute dream of a result, both sides played the
majority of the game with 10 men which means Erriparri is
suspended and Kai Pavlov also picked up a yellow card which
means he misses out.
A brace for Laszlo Kiss took his Tally for the season to 27
goals, Tanaka’s brace took him to 18.
