The Reaper Review - Issue 4 - Rolling the dice

With only a quarter of the season remaining, manager Dave
Rosewell has certainly rolled the dice at Reykjavik Reapers,
with no less than 6 player being shown the door across 2 big
deals. This follows a string of difficult games for the
Icelandic outfit, which has seen their 13 game unbeaten record
come to an end in division 2. Their huge 13 point lead has also
reduced to 6 points in 6 games, as since the break they have
only won once, drawn 3 times and lost twice in division 2.
First up, Belarusian defender Danik Marashko, Danish midfielder
Aksel Mikkelsen, Bulgarian youth striker Nayden Osmanov and
Ukrainian forward Artem Kolinko have joined managerless Leszno
Lyons. The biggest shock of this deal is Marashko's departure,
he was one of Dave Rosewell protégés at Golden Eagles FC.
However, he struggled to find a place in the Eagles squad, but
after signing for first Nikara Dragons and then Reapers, he
finally got his chance. However, his relationship with his
manager has become strained in recent weeks and it seemed that
it was only a matter of time before he would be on his way out.
In their place comes experienced Dutch centre-back Denis Merko,
who should be a better fit alongside Enzo Fratelli. Argentine
playmaker Olbrys Gueves, who has one of the best completed
passing rates in division 2. And lastly 18 year old Greek/Bosnia
striker Raczka Popovi, who scored 11 goals for Lyons.
Another surprise departure is top scorer Claudio Carrillo, the
19 year old Argentine striker has scored 13 goals. He, along
with Uzbekistani defender Ali Dzhanibekov join promotion
hopefuls Dusseldorf Dragons. An even bigger surprise than
Carrillo leaving is the signing of German hotshot Hannes Gunter
who has racked up 19 goals for Dragons. Joining him in the move
to Iceland is French youth defender Dex Mattis who is a hot tip
       for the future.
Gunter has be given the number 9 shirt, Gueves gets number 14,
Merko gets number 24 and Mattis gets number 25.
This is quite a gamble by Reapers, but a major shake up has been
on the cards for a few weeks now. There could still be further
changes to come before the transfer deadline next Friday, but
not official news has been made yet.

We wasn't half wrong with our prediction, as 18 year old
Ukranian midfielder Bogdan Novovolynsk is the latest player to
leave Reykjavik Reapers. However, it seems that this deal was
more to do with remaining minutes, rather than his performance.
Young Bogdan hasn't really had the chance to shine, but he'll
certainly have the chance following a switch to Highland
Rangers, where he should slot right into their starting line up.
In his place comes young Japanese striker Jiang Zuya (along with
£15,000,000), as Reapers continue to try and strengthen their
attacking threat. He was a hot-tip after season 3, but has
struggled for regular game time with there being too much
competition in the Rangers strike force. Zuya has been given
       squad number 20.
Is this young lad the final part of Dave Rosewell's plan? Or is
there still more to come from one of the most active managers in
       the transfer market?

In a loan swap deal between Reapers and Golden Eagles FC, Andrei
Perebyinis has joined the division one outfit for the rest of
the season. While English creative midfielder, Bryan Prittwick
has joined Reapers. He has had to play second fiddle a fair bit
this season due to Eagles having such a strong midfield and is
hoping to get a bit more game time here. Prittwick will be
wearing the number 8 shirt for the rest of the season.
