their quarter-final game against Rael Nerrad 4-5 on penalties,
after things finished 4-4 after extra-time. Eagles dominated yet
again with 68% possession and 29 shots on goal, but Nerrad
fought tooth-and-nail and their keeper P. Andrewsen made a
massive 14 saves!
Jack Groves got the 8 goal thriller rolling, with a lovely shot
in the 20th minutes, but Nerrad quickly equalised when Angelo
Nazari's back pass rolled into his own net after Kamil
Uzbaezanov hilarious slip. Darío Bourrin put his team back in
control 6 minutes later, the Eagles captain nutmegged Andrewsen
and rounded the keeper for an easy tap in following Domenic
Torcaso nice pass.
Nerrad were back on terms in the 31st minute, after Anders Limt
scored from a tight angle against his former team. Nissim Asayag
then put the away side ahead just before half time, as Limt
turned provider. Just as it seemed Nerrad would take the lead
into the break, Taavi Ruusumäki broke down the wing and his
swinging cross was met by Jack Groves for his 2nd of the match.
Eagles piled on the pressure in the 2nd half, but just couldn't
find a way through, even with making a triple substitution on
the hour mark to freshen things up. So the game went into
extra-time and 8 minutes into it, another former Eagles player,
Tobias Luoto put Nerrad back in front! Angelo Nazari then made
up for his earlier own goal, as he slotted home Diog Guillems'
lovely weighted pass.
Things finished all square, meaning the game would come down to
penalties. Jack Groves took the first penalty for Eagles and he
somehow skyed it! Eagles then converted their next 4, but Gylo
Franques scored the winning penalty, as Nerrad scored with all
of theirs! Groves still won man of the match, despite his miss,
his 2 goals and pace caused problems through out the extra long
game.
The loss sees Eagles drop out of the running for top spot and
the best they can hone for now is 5th in the 5-8th placed
semi-finals where they face Reykjavík Reapers.

It was another case of the team shooting themselves in the foot,
as Reykjavík Reapers had another 2 players sent off in their
defeat to Dusseldorf Dragons who won 9-8 on penalties. The teams
were fairly evenly matched through out the game and was
surprising that Reapers managed to hold on to a 2-2 draw with
being 2 men short for about 30 mins, including extra-time.
Claudio Carrillo had a brilliant chance to put Reapers ahead in
the 14th minute from the penalty spot, following Lutigar Ulls
bringing down Enzo Julliene. The German was lucky not to only
get a yellow card! should have been a red! However, Carrillo's
penalty was wells saved by Karl Gotthard. Carrillo made amends
almost immediately though, his hot hammered in off the bar,
following Andrei Perebyinis' well placed pass.
Utzo Valeska then equalised for Dragons just before the break,
out pacing Danik Marashko and blasting the ball passed Jordan
Giordano. 1-1. Otmaer Gaskor then put them ahead 4 minutes after
the restart, scoring from Lutigar Ulls's corner.
With time ticking down, Reapers pushed more players forwards and
they managed to equalise in the 70th minute, after Zik Trautmann
fouled Claudio Carrillo and a free kick was given (Trautmann
also escaped with only a yellow, scandalous!). Mariano Bernard
stepped up and bent in a wonder shot, what a gloriously taken
free kick! all square again!
When a red card did finally emerge in the 75th minute, it was
Reapers' Andrei Perebyinis who was given his marching order,
after hauling down Utzo Valeska who was clean through on goal.
Took one of his team there! Then 4 minutes from the end, Enzo
Fratelli also received a straight red after appearing to
headbutt Lutigar Ulls! The players squared up after Fratelli
fouled him, words were exchanged and the fiery Italian barely
touched Ulls, the German when down like a sack of s**t. If
Fratelli deserved a red for that, then Ulls should have surely
gotten an oscar!
The game went into extra time and 9 man Reapers were stretched
to breaking point, but they gallantly held on to take the game
to penalties. Amazingly, they went all the way through to the
9th choice takers. With Reapers 2 men short, it was down to
keeper Jordan Giordano to be the 9th man to step up and his shot
was saved by his opposite number, giving the victory to Dragons!
Claudio Carrillo won the man of the match award, but was little
constellation for Reapers, who missed the chance to fight for
the top spot.
Reapers now face the daunting task of facing Dave Rosewell's
main club, Golden Eagles FC in the 5-8th place semi-finals!
