After the departure of manager Andy Burton, Sky Blues were on a
market for a new manager. However, Icelandic consortium
(including Icelandic gaming company CCP) made an offer to the
now former owners that they couldn't refuse. Within hours of the
news breaking about the takeover, it was announced that the team
would be re-located from Coventry to Iceland!
The team will now be called Reykjavik Reapers and be based at
Paragon Stadium, a newly-refurbished 75,000 seater stadium on
the outskirts of the Nordic island's capital. The Stadium use to
belong to former Einnek FA team Reykjavik Ripperjacks, who went
bust in the early 2000s.
Along with the new name, the team are also getting a new manager
- Golden Eagles FC manager, Dave Rosewell will be taking the
helm as caretaker, with Icelandic native Gunnar Hjörleifsson as
assistant manager.
"I am excited to be taking on a new challenge, we have got a
very young squad and I am confident that we can do well in the
new format division 2."
