We went into todays game with three plyers out through
suspension and with two games left in the league, we found
ourselves trailing Rael by five points. In all realities it was
a tough ask but we gad to keep punching as until its
numerically impossible there is always a chance after all isn't
it the reason you buy lottery tickets, if your not in you cant
win.
after watching the game today, the game was over in the 1st
quarter as they say in the NFL, by the 23rd minute. Maybe there
was a bit of luck with opener on the 10th minute, when Leda
Cygnus, went on a a run and left the defenders in his wake then
he hit a low drive, which Yashin looked to have it covered but
it bobbled over his outstretched hand putting us in the lead.
For the older managers I sort of thought of an old film
CADDYSHACK maybe the gopher helped the ball past Yashin.
We should have had a penalty four minutes later when Tyreek Hill
brought down Caoihmin Og but somehow between them, the referee
and VAR it wasn't given. three minutes later the lead was
doubled when man of the match Bhote Diasuke lobbed the Sunset
keeper, exquisite. Straight from the kick-off we retained the
ball and Caoihmin Og hit his 30th goal of the season when he a
bender into the top bins. The game was killed of five minutes
later when Inchcombe was slide in by Nakamoto. Sunset then
decided to try keep the score down and changed to a defensive
style.
It was a comfortable time after that and we played the clock
out, with a cup final midweek it was well needed. After the game
we received some good news in that Rael lost the lead is down to
two points, getting to the last league game of the season with
an outside chance of winning the league is more than
acceptable.[/font]

Helsinki 5 - 3 Whirlwinds
Match overview
For the second week running Helsinki's opponents notched 3 goals
and Helsinki still won! What a game. The scoreline doesn't tell
the story, not by half, but this game was close in stats and end
scoreline but mid match Helsinki were looking very comfortable
and it was late goals that gave the scoreline respectability for
the bottom club. For Helsinki it has all but secured promotion
and bar a defeat and unexpected results elsewhere they should
finish the league in second place and secure automatic promotion
to fight amongst the big dogs next season.
How they lined up
Helsinki went for 3 at the back and the extra man in midfield as
usual. They choose all out attacking football anticipating a
boring defensive tactic from their opponents.
Whilrwinds though counter attacked and it set them up with a
chance of causing an upset. Gulp.
Match action
1 - 0 Helsinki. Quick start, it took just two minutes for Honest
to find Tanaka to last home.
2 - 1 Helsinki. Whirlwinds deservedly got back on level terms on
25 minutes through a Ringo header but fell back behind to a
Shephard strike soon after.
Half time - 2 - 1
3 -1 & red card - The game turned on 53 minutes as van Angel was
sent off and from the resulting free kick DeDavis Roy found
Shephard to notch his second goal and leave the Hellhounds in
control
4 -1 Kiss got on the scoresheet again - his form is definitely
improving
5 - 1 Then Tanaka turned provider for Shephard to score his hat
trick goal and seal the points on 71 minutes
5 - 3 There was time for two consolation goals in the final 10
minutes which removed some of the gloss for Helsinki
Manager's mouthful
Huge result for us. We got caught out by our opponent's tactics
and they made it a real game. The red card was a huge moment and
sometimes you need a bit of luck. The league table looks good
and we know if we avoid defeat in the final round then we are
up! Exciting times, but we're not popping the champagne corks
just yet!

Thames Ironworks 1 - 2 AFC Coventry
Very pleased to come away with a good victory here, and the
feeling of what could have been if we'd grabbed a couple more
points at any point during the season. We will miss out on the
play offs this season, but hopefully we can regroup and go again
next term.
Goals from Hernandez and Iemechi were enough to give us three
points. Need to figure out the names for our players during the
off season to bring a bit more of a buy in for me to the squad,
but overall a decent first half season is nearly at a close.

Golden Eagles FC secured automatic promotion to division 1 with
a 3-0 victory over United 1908. Also with Robbaillie Escocia
suffering a shock 1-2 home defeat to Kingfisher Dolphins, Eagles
have one hand on the division 2 title with 1 game remaining.
United tried to stop Eagles preferred style of counter attacking
football by playing the long ball game. It worked to a degree,
despite Eagles dominating possession (76/24%), they only had 4
shots on goal. However 3 of those shots were on target and
that's all they needed in the end. While United managed 0 shots
on goal, even with 3 strikers!
Barely had the game started when a poor backpass from Bohdan
Kidruk was intercepted by Darío Bourrin. The Frenchman made his
opponent pay for his mistake with a thumping shot at A.
Schetynsky's near post. And Eagles were 2 up within the first 5
minutes, Darío Bourrin turning provider this time as he threaded
the ball through to Angelo Nazari and his shot into the top
right corner almost broke the net!
Eagles could have been down to 10 men in the 27th minute, Atrem
Poltorak slid in with a nasty looking tackle on Joachim Eid.
However, the Eagles Captain escaped with only a yellow. However,
that will see him miss the final game of the season through
suspension. Pavel Chernyshev then scored his 22 goal of the
season in the 40 mintue, the Russian striker nutmegged B.
Kechakmadze and then chipped the keeper with a lovely effort.
3-0!
United were themselves lucky not to have a player sent off a
couple of minutes later, I. Charkviani up-ended Darío Bourrin,
but only received a warning. Players have been sent off for
less! The 2nd half was chalk and cheese compared to the 1st
half, with Eagles just happy sitting back with the ball and
frustrating their opponents.
There was late drama late on, Darío Bourrin almost got his 2nd
of the game, but was blocked by Joachim Eid and as the Belgian
passed back to his keeper, he totally miss kicked! The ball
rolled past A. Schetynsky, but went out for a corner, much to
his relief! Things finished 3-0 to Eagles and their travelling
fans celebrated, as news filtered through that Robbaillie
Escocia had lost. Darío Bourrin was also voted man of the match
for his goal, assist and fine performance.
"Fantastic result to be the first division 2 side to gain
automatic promotion this season. As I said last weekend, we hold
our own destiny in our hands, of course with Robbaillie losing
it has certainly helped us out a bit! Now we gotta go out next
week and finish the job."
Eagles extend their lead over Robbaillie Escocia to 4 points, as
they drop down to 3rd. While Helsinki Hellhounds 5-3 victory
over Eastern Whirlwinds means they move up to 2nd, 3 points
behind the champions elect. Even if Eagles were to lose their
last game of the season, Hellhounds would still need to overturn
a 12 goal deficit on goal difference. Eagles have a mighty +32
scoring 51 and only conceding 19 times.

United 1908's unbeaten run has come to an end at the hands of
Golden Eagles FC, as they were beaten 0-3 despite assistant
manager Vitaliy Yanukovych trying to outfox Eagles. They were
pretty much un-done within the first 5 minutes. First a mistake
from Bohdan Kidruk let in Darío Bourrin and then Angelo Nazari
made it 0-2. The game was more or less over by half time with
Pavel Chernyshev scoring the visitor's 3rd.
In the 2nd half, Eagles controlled the game and Psotos Illyte
and co. couldn't even get a sniff in the final 3rd of the pitch.
Eagles had very limited chances, with only 4 shots on goal
themselves, but they managed to convert 3 of those into goals.
United who remain on 25 points now go into their final game of
the season against Highland Rangers looking to secure 8th place
with 7th placed Nikara Dragons (on 29 points) now being out of
reach. Close rivals Sky Blues moved up to 2 points behind United
after beating Rangers themselves 2-1. Dave Rosewell will be back
in charge for what will be his final game as caretaker, with
Wayne Lupton expected to return during the post season break.

Nikara battle for hard fought draw
The Nikara Dragons were well worth a point at Sinegard Stadium
as they welcome the Cockney Cockrells. The final result was 2-2
with Dragons scoring a fairly late equaliser despite having the
better of the game for the most part. In some ways it was a
bittersweet result for Nikara as they managed to score late to
secure the point but they will have left the stadium feeling
they on another night they might have done enough to get a win.
The story of the night
Nikara lined up in a fairly familiar 4123 formation with Vilo
Fleuss manning the defensive midfield position and Vitor Melav
coming in for the suspended Brad Prittwick. The Cockrells lined
up in a marginally more defensive 4132 formation providing an
extra man in midfield in an attempt to eat up possession.
Tactically the Dragons saw through the deception from Daz, going
with Counter Attacking against a Passing Cockrells team.
Frustratingly, once Nikara went a goal up on 20 minutes, the
Cockrells shifted to Attacking which should play into the
Counter Attacking strengths. That proved not to be the case as
Anders Limt's 20th minute goal was first cancelled out by ex
Dragon Ayo Sawaguuci before going a goal behind on 47 minutes to
a Ole Guncalves strike.
Thankfully for the Nikara Dragons young phenom Nero Shallahs
netted an 82nd minute equaliser to send the 65,000 fans in
attendance into raptures. It was Shallahs 6th goal of the season
in limited minutes which is an excellent return for a 12 rated
striker and is indicative of his potential in the game.
Speaking of the fans, today was the first time that the new tier
to the West stand was open allowing an additional 5,000 fans
into the stadium. Its clear to see the club are looking to
maximise their commercial opportunities whilst also creating a
cauldron like atmosphere at Sinegard Stadium.
What do the stats tell us?
Ultimately the home side had the better of the game with 54%
possession and a 16-11 advantage in shots on goal. In fairness
the difference between shots on target was just 6-5 showing how
wasteful the Nikara front three were. Given this you could argue
that 2-2 is a fair result and certainly neither team dominated
the game. Perhaps a bit of extra work on set pieces on the
training ground (Nikara had 3 corners to Cockneys 1) might lead
to a more favourable result.
What did the manager have to say?
"I am absolutely gutted mate. The team have let me down badly
today. I set them up perfectly and these idiots have properly
screwed the pooch. Can't believe it - going to have to look at
every single one of them in training and work out of any of them
should be kept"
Its not typical for managers to publicly shame their own team so
it will be interesting to see how this one plays out in the
dressing room. Expect a bunch of transfer requests in the coming
weeks!
