Nikara miss the chance to pull back into promotion contention
Sinegard Stadium was the home to an interesting matchup tonight
as 7th placed Nikara Dragons hosted the 5th placed Kingfisher
Dolphins in a game that could have dragged the Dragons back into
promotion contention. With a win the Nikara Dragons would have
24 points which would have taken them above 6th placed Coventry
and within 1 point of the 5th placed Dolphins. There is still a
fair gap to the 30 points that 3rd and 4th placed teams have so
perhaps it doesn't really matter!!
The game lined up as expected with the Dolphins and Dragons
looking to place Passing football and both with similar
variations of 442 formation. The game was back and forth in the
early stages with opportunities from both teams to get ahead.
Nikara suffered an early blow with top defender Ayho Kushimo
going down like he'd been shot and requiring a stretcher to get
off the pitch, replaced by Rob van Keef. For those worried about
Kushimo, don't lose too much sleep, he's not going to miss any
games at all.. smh
On 25 minutes the Dolphins had the first massive chance when
Tyrod Taylor accidentally brought down Gastro Huamh inside the
box. Top scorer Harvey Adkins stepped up to take the penalty but
blazed it wide from the spot giving a temporary reprieve to the
Dragons.
If they were playing with fire for most of the first half, they
really lost control on the strike of half time when Georgie
Rutter brought down Gastro Huamh again and was issued a straight
red card. The youngster is highly thought of in Japan but he'll
need to play smarter if he is to keep top scorer Anders Streng
out the team.
It took the Dolphins almost no time in the second half to take
the lead when the man of the moment, Gastro Huamh hit a
thundering shot passed Zachariadis and gave what felt like an
unassailable 1-0 lead with Nikara down to 10 men. Tyrod Taylor
had other ideas and within 10 minutes had curled a long range
strike passed Spellman in the Kingfisher goal. This seemed to
energise the Dragons who had much better control on the game and
even had a few chances to steal a win.
The game finished 1-1 and probably left nobody particularly
satisfied. Nikara probably had marginally the better of the
statistics with 51% possession and a 17-13 advantage in total
shots. Shots on target was even more stark as the Dragons turned
their 17 shots into 11 on target whilst the Dolphins only had 6.
Given the red card and missed penalty the Dragons will probably
feel the better of the two managers tonight, though rumour has
it he's too riddled with anxiety over the Brown/Texans playoff
game to be too bothered either way.
At the press conference after the game manager Taylor said:
"I'm disappointed because I feel Rutter let us down. At 0-0 we
were right in the game but the red card changed the dynamic of
the game and didn't allow us the flexibility to make changes
later on. Everyone knows I make crazy good changes that
transform games but that kid ruined my chances to flex my
managerial skills. I'm definitely dropping him for the next
game. Otherwise thought we did fine"
Nobody bothered to mention to the clown running the Dragons that
Rutter would be suspended for the next game so it doesn't really
matter if he'd 'drop' him or not.
Up next for the Nikara Dragons is a brutal away match against
the Golden Eagles. It might be a beautiful reunion for Matsumoto
as he welcomes his old club though the Dragons are not going to
be looking forward to the game. There is a good reason why the
Eagles are 8 points clear of the Dragons and it starts with top
tier talent across the board. No doubt the analytics team will
be spending the week looking for any weaknesses they can find.
Either that or the manager will take the team off to Tijuana for
some R&R.

Leading the table as we are means we are there to be shot at and
after our mid-week cup exploits
we had a few players with fitness issues leading us to give them
a rest for the visit of out of form Wolves.
We started the game tentatively allowing Wolves to get some
tackles in and settle into the game.
It didn't take them long to capitalise when we gave away a cheap
corner in the 8th minute allowing Ince
the opportunity to cross into the area and Mason to fire home
form near the penalty spot.
This sparked an immediate change in formation as we dropped into
a deeper role to get him into the game
and it seemed to have an effect as it draw their central
defenders further away from to goal to mark him
and allowed a bit more space for the influential Marcentos (not
for sale) to utilise.
We had more of the ball during this period but didn't really do
too much with it until Tallehasse's
marker left some space for Asayag who managed to get a cross
into the area towards Marcentos.
Marcentos actually misjudged the flight of the ball but somehow
managed to produce a good finish into the corner.
Replays actually showed that he had scored with his backside!
At this point we actually looked the like the only winners of
the game until Shane Eagles,
playing his first game after being out for 4 games with injury,
decided to punch whilst play was going on elsewhere.
The referee didn't spot it but the assistant did and duly
brought it to
the attention of the referee who produced the inevitable red
card.
Even with 10 men we were never in any real danger but we also
never really did enough to win the game.
A home draw with Wolves looks like a disappointing result on the
face of it
but all things considered it's enough for us to maintain our
lead at the top.
At least for now.

Pompey Chimes 2-0 Sarnians
The result doesn’t do the game justice, we dominated this one,
but despite having amassed 39 goals this season we choose this
one to draw a blank.
If our opening goal had it have been disallowed then the
floodgates may well have been open and the result could have
been different.
But as it is, Pompey pull level to us on points and we drop to
5th in the league.

[move][glow=red,2,300]Helsinki Hellhound 4 - 4 Golden
Eagles[/glow][/move]
Match overview
Pure entertainment for the neutrals and fans alike. This game
had it all. The lead exchanged hands no less than three times. 8
goals from 46 shots. Wow. Wow. Wow. Ultimately the sides shared
the 8 goals and it wound up with a 4 - 4 fantastic draw!
How they lined up
Helsinki went for 3 at the back and the extra man in midfield.
Choosing their favoured European formation to counter any
prospect of counter attacking from their opponents.
The Eagles choosing a Passing approach to their game looking to
utilise their 4 ball playing defenders. They complimented the
defenders with an additional midfielder.
Question was whether the Eagles' slightly more defensive
approach would counter the Hellhounds aim to dominate midfielder
and play through the thirds.
Match action
We could write an essay on this!
- Eagles struck first on 13 mins with Goisthlt scoring
- Honest and Evans grabbed a quick fire double on 28 and 29 mins
to turn the game on it's head and Helsinki led 2 - 1
- With half time approaching Eagles were on top and Poltorak
scored from a corner. 2-2 at half time
- 51 mins Eagles edged ahead through Chernyshev but Kiss got an
equaliser soon after 3 - 3
- Chernyshev got his second on 66 mins which looked to be the
winner for Eagles 3 - 4
- But super sub Khazri dug Helsinki out of a whole with the 4th
on 84 minutes, 4 - 4
- Both teams had one final chance to find a hero in injury time
but it wasn't to me
Manager's mouthful
Great game to watch, nightmare to manage. These are two high
quality sides and we saw a high quality game of football today.
I think both of us will be in the mix come the end of the season
for automatic promotion. That goal from Khazri could prove
pivotal come the final game of the season.
Helsinki player of the match
Lots of players to choose from:
1) Reece Evan's triple (5 tackles, 1 assist, 1 goal)
2) Khazri's triple (2 tackles, 1 assist, 1 goal)
3) Shynkarenko's 6 passes, 1 assist, 3 shots
On this occasion the fans just gave it to Khazri who had a big
impact on the game for such a young age. Well done Khazri!

Thames Ironworks 1 - 4 Highland
Rangers
Highland Rangers fans must be pinching themselves as the team
managed to get the second win of the season away at Thames with
an outstanding 4-1 win. With goals from
Diode_Navrick,Trevor_Hayes , Steve_Bowen , Jay_Jay_Summs the
team where in. Con trol form very early in the game. They did
not make the most of there first half chances and at half time
it was only 1-0. In the second half they made a good start to
the half and managed to double there lead. They then seemed to
take there foot of the gas and Thames managed to get a goal
back. This seemed to concentrate the minds of the away team and
they managed to score two more goals.
The manager was full of praise for the team and said that they
are starting to show the full promise. The new signings are now
starting to fit in and deliver the results that the team require
as they try and get of the bottom of the league.
The only down point was the sending off of Oliver Dunstable in
the 80th minute which will make him unavailable for the next
game. Justin Poppy limped of in the first half but White confirm
he is not Bailey injured and will be available for the next
game.

Golden Eagles FC and Helsinki Hellhounds played out a thrilling
4-4 draw in one of the most entertaining games of the season.
Both teams were at full-strength and there was barely anything
to pick between the 2 sides, shots, possession, key tackles and
passes were fairly evenly divided.
It was Eagles who drew first blood in the 13th minute, as long
term Hellhounds target Darío Bourrin played in Jans Goisthalt.
The Finn side stepped his marker and smashed home his 18th goal
of the season. Eagles were almost 2 up a minute later, this time
Bourrin played a lovely pass to Alessio Kovacic. The Swiss
maestro's curling shot took a wicked defection, flat-footing the
keeper, butbit drifted just wide!
Hellhounds pulled level in the 28th minute, Gaum Honest's shot
looked to be going over, but it dipped suddenly, giving Kamil
Uzbaezanov no chance. The home side then took the lead a minute
later, Reece Evans' initial shot was charged down by Rodrigo
Desábato and rebounded back to him. His second shot beat Uz, as
it hit the post and went in.
Goisthalt almost equalised in the 36th minute, his free kick
(awarded after he was bundled over by O. Shynkarenko) had Hiro
Hikkara beat, but his shot hit the post! It was captain Artem
Poltorak who did eventually equalise though, as he knocked in
Desábato's 43rd minute corner, 2-2!
Despite a breathless first half, the pace didn't let up after
the break. As Pavel Chernyshev put Eagles back into the lead in
the 51st minute with a glorious solo effort. It didn't last long
though, as Lazlo Kiss broke his barren spell 2 minutes later as
his shot just went past Uzbaezanov's outstretched hand.
In a back and forth game, Chernyshev picked up his second of the
game, he skipped over Gyuszi Hont's tackle before unleashing a
thunderbolt 4-3 to Eagles! Eagles rode their luck a couple of
times and almost snatched a 5th themselves, Goisthalt going
closest. The game looked to be slipping away from Hellhounds.
However, with the minutes ticking down an unlike hero emerged,
as former Eagles Youth player Hakim Khazri scored with 6 minutes
remaining. 4-4, remarkable!
Both teams were desperate to still find a winner, the hunger and
drive that Eagles and Hellhounds showed were certainly
entertaining for the neutral, never-wracking for managers.
However, it finished all sqaure which was certainly a fair
result, defeat for either side would have been pretty harsh.
There were many great performances today, but it was Hellhounds
Hakim Khazri who won the Man of the Match award, certainly well
deserved for the young lad. Meanwhile Pavel Chernyshev wasn't
far behind in the vote with a lovely brace.
"My heart is still thumping in my chest after that game. It was
a shame to lose the leaf in the last 10 minutes of the game, but
all credit to Hellhounds, they deserved to get something out of
this. We need to look at our defensive performance yet again
however, we've shipped 9 goals in 2 games. With only 6 games
left to go in the league, we gotta do better."
The win sees Eagles remain 3rd, Hellhounds still in 4th. Cockney
Cockrells thrashing of Sky Blues means they stay in 2nd, but
increase the gap from 1 to 3 points to Eagles. While Robbaillie
Escocia's win over Eastern Whirlwinds sees them stay top.

United 1908 picker up their first win under caretaker manager
Dave Rosewell with a 5-0 thumping of AFC Coventry! The newly
resurgent United dominated the promotion hopefuls, with 69%
possession and 25 shots. Coventry struggled, as their manager
did not turn up!
A. Perebyinis opened the scoring after only 3 minutes, smashing
home M. Dubnik's low cross. Psotos Illyte made it 2-0 after 14
minutes with a delightful chip over A. M. Oven.
The Bulgarian striker scored his 2nd of game in the 40th minute,
as he latched on to captain P. Dneprov's neat back-heeled
flick-on. Illyte then completed his hattrick from the penalty
spot in the 51st minute after Perebyinis was brought down by
Michael Doyle.
United then made a triple substitution; Bohdan Kidruk, R.
Vynnchuk and Artem Kolinko came on for R. Arakishvili, Joachim
Eid and M. Kozdoba, as United switched to 4 at the back.
Sub kolinko then got in on the action, with a curling shot from
outside the area in the 64th minute to put the cherry on top of
a great afternoon for the hartlepool based club. The last 25
minutes were pretty quiet, as United controlled the pace and the
game finished 5-0, fantastic result!
Psotos Illyte brilliant hattrick, earned him the man of the
match award, while midfield duo A. Perebyinis and P. Dneprov's
also put in great performances, as they commanded the middle of
the pitch.
"Great result for the fans and this will give the lads a lot of
confidence going into the final 6 games, as we face close rivals
Sky Blues next week."
The win sees them pull level on points with Sky Blues, who they
play away next Saturday. AFC stay 6th, but drop a point to
Kingfisher Dolphins who drew away to Nikara Dragons. United 1908
could have some influence on the title race, as they still have
to face Cockney Cockrells, Robbaillie Escocia and Golden Eagles
FC in the closing stages.

Puskas Academia
SCORERS: Oda_Nobunaga,Jack_Groves,
Bohte_Daisuke, Kozma_Zolten OG
The day finally came we have to face my old team I part
time/caretaker its like finding out your kids aren't yours and
you run into them with your original family, you have mixed
feelings but in the end you want to beat them bad like red
headed step child.
But really at this end of the season new worries raise their
head and at the minute we are starting to worry about minutes
and the team selection is starting to show our thinking. IN
todays squad ut necessitated five changes to our thinking,
URILAY_POSTOV, Nakamoto, Rui_Hikkara, Lewi_Poucho and
F_Inchcombe, where all placed in the starting squad. Mow that's
not saying they wouldn't have been selected but they are more in
rotation than normal starters as we push on all fronts.
The new manager of Puskas countered our tactics and it worked
well for them as on the 4th minute, Mandor put the visitors
ahead, but that didn't last for long as Nobunaga pulled us level
five minutes later. Puskas where battering us, dominating the
ball but where caught against the run of play when Jack Groves
put us into the lead for the first time and we where hoping that
normal business would be resumed. That was an ill timed thought
as Puskas didn't let up and continued the onslaught which then
paid of when five minutes from the break our own bit, Diashi on
loan at Puskas, drew them level and we where looking rough on
the ropes, we really needed half time.
The second half didn't go as planned as Puskas didn't let up and
got their just rewards when Kristo put them into the lead for
the second time that day. Our midfield was getting over run and
it took a defender to right the ship and Bohte Diasuke got us
back all square which set up an exciting end of the half and
luckily on the 85th minute we got our first bit of luck when
Zolten put it through his own goal awarding us the points.
It was a hard fought match and we have to reconsider our
approach as we battle the fight to spread the minutes and stay
competitive[/font][/size]
