       Hellhound howler: Season 5 review!
Prior to last season commencing we reported that the
expectations for the season ahead were:
       - 11th in season 4 was a slight under performance by the club.
       - They may struggle to compete with Yazuka, Eagles, Sarnians and
Nerrad based on skills alone so will need tactical genius if
they are to mount a serious challenge for any trophy.
       - But there was hope as shown by Darlington!
       - An average finish would be about 7th and ideally a decent cup
       run to boot
       - Critically though, a desire to improve the squad through
       transfers and in game development
For a bit of colour we took a look at starting XIs from the
first couple of weeks of the season to demonstrate the mountain
       that needed to be climbed!
Helsinki: 16.1 avg main skill, 13.4 avg secondary skill
Solid across the park, but unspectacular and the club were also
       blooding some youngsters freshly scouted.
When you compare that with the "big four" from previous seasons
you can see that the three title challenges were both evenly
matched and also a long way ahead of rivals, which is exactly
how the league played out in practice. Nerrad are a bit
different in that they rely on the genius of Marcentos with
everything going through him. As a result their squad looked
more like Helsinki's on average but with one very special
       player.
       Golden Eagles 17.8 / 13.8 secondary
       Sarnians 17.8 / 12.8 secondary
       Kyushu 17.6 / 12.8 secondary
       Nerrad 16.4 / 12.1 secondary
So how did the season play out in practice?
       - League: 5TH placed finish, entertaining football, an excellent
result for a team that started with 17sh and 15sh forwards
       - Xbox league cup
       [shadow=red,left][glow=red,2,300]CHAMPIONS[/glow][/shadow] was
an incredible achievement for a mid table squad
       - EA knockout cup SEMI-FINALISTS, narrowly missing out on the
       final
[move]Overall rating by the Board: 9 out of 10[/move]
It was simply put, a fantastic season. The team overcame the
odds to lift their first ever trophy, come close to a second
trophy and improve their league position from 11th -> 5th. Once
the excess minutes are applied to those developing players the
club expects the team to look vastly different for season 6.

       Hellhound howler: Update!
Last time we waxed lyrical about the fantastic on field
achievements of the Hellhounds. This edition looks at the
remarkable evolution of the playing squad in a short period of
       time.
Start of season 5 the club's starting XI looked as follows. Some
pure potential in the form of Asanovic and HarrisJones mixed
with some developing high quality first team players. But a
clear challenge to bridge the huge gap between them and Golden
       Eagles, Kyushu and Sarnians.
       GK Hikkara 20st
       DF Evans 17tk/15ps/9sh
       DF Dyachenko 16/13/11
       DF Prochazka 16/14/9
       DM McClare 14/16/7
       DM Jemmes 14/16/8
       MF Shynkarenko 14/18/16
       MF Maeta 2/17/10
       MF Asanovic 3/13/11
       AM Karrar 4/15/17
       FW HarrisJones 11/12/15
       Average main 16.5
       Average second 13.4
       Average third 7.8
In a league where the top sides were boasting 17/18 skillers
across their starting XIs the team were always going to struggle
for consistency and take points of the big guns.
Roll forward 1 season and look where the team has managed to get
       to...
       GK Hikkara 22st
       DF Dyachenko 18/14/14
       DF Prochazka 18/16/10
       DF Hurts 17/14/15
       DM McClare 16/18/7
       MF Shynkarenko 15/19/17
       MF Shephard 15/19/17
       MF Prittwick 13/18/15
       MF Warwick 10/18/14
       AM Karrar 4/16/19
       FW HarrisJones 12/15/17
       Average main 18.5 (+2.0)
       Average second 15.5 (+2.1)
       Average third 11.4 (+3.6)
Now, all clubs in the league are improving and some of those
clubs are improving fast. Last season was a fantastic season for
a number of reasons for Helsinki:
       - Total football style, aiming to score more than the opposition
and keep all 11 players involved in every game
       - Deep cup runs meant large excess minutes for a number of
players come end of season with some players playing over 40
       games across all competitions
       - The club's analytics department made the most of every
opportunity to improve player's skills and maximise the club's
improvement. The latest of these was the auction where it was
identified that rather than add minutes (at a potentially
disproportionate cost for c2,000 additional ability points come
end of the season), they could add 8 secondaries to the team and
boost skills immediately at a slightly lower (but still
       disproportionate!) cost.
       - Transfer dealings have been focussed on improving the quality
of the squad and the depth, there are number of players not in
the starting XI who back up those first team stars and will
cover in the even of injury
       Evolution in season 6?
       - The new squad gives the manager absolute flexibility over
tactics with the ability to field players that suit pretty much
       every tactic now
       - Will their gung ho style need to change? Or will they risk it
all in the pursuit of entertainment? We might only find that out
later in the season if they are in with a shout of lifting major
trophies. Don't expect a back 5 in week one though!
It's going to be an interesting ride as the club hopes to
       continue it's upward trajectory!

       Hellhound howler: Round up
It's been a long old while since we checked in with the
Hellhound squad. This edition looks at the team's performance as
they hit the mid point of the league season.
       [move]Player performances[/move]
Goalie: Hikkara - its been a strong showing so far for the
       club's number 1. He's conceded 25 in 177 shots on goal, that's a
save rate of 86%, saving around 7 of 8 shots on goal -
potentially meaning opponents need around 15 shots to score a
       goal.
Jalen Hurts - 27 tackles, comfortably the most in the team. He's
has combined that with 6 goals and 2 assists, demonstrating his
all round capabilities and why so much was outlayed to bring him
       in in the close season.
Shynkarenko - talisman in midfield, now up to 55 passes with 5
assists, and 6 goals to boot.
Lyle Warwick - less was expected of young Warwick following his
move but he's matched Shynkarenko for goals and assists so far.
Raffi Karrar - 9 goals from 78 shots, a decent return, but needs
to improve on almost 9 shots per goal, it's holding the team
       back.
       [move]League form - review[/move]
       Rating: 7/10
It could have been so much better, but two back to back defeats
against title rivals leaves Helsinki 6 points adrift and
       starting to hope for mircales.
       [move]Xbox cup - review[/move]
       Rating: 9/10
Safely through to the last 16 following 5 consecutive victories
after a worrying opening defeat. Reasonable draw in last 16
makes the team hopeful of making the quarter finals. From there
       anything can happen.
       [move]EA KO cup - review[/move]
       Rating: 6/10
Safely navigated the first round against Tranmere but now face a
real step up away to Arctic. Tough draw, tough ask. They'll need
a top performance to make it through.
So a bit of a mixed bag, a number of players playing well, but
just feels like the team is missing the 2 or 3% needed to be
       genuine contenders.
