       Hellhound howler: Round up!
       [move]Transfer coup failure[/move]
Rumours have surfaced from within the club that an audacious
attempt was made this week to secure an elite level player.
Sources won't be drawn on what the offer was or who the player
was that was pursued but it is understood that negotiations
didn't process past an initial offer and, predictably, the offer
was rebuffed. No luck on this occasion but that won't stop the
club from trying to improve the starting XI.
Asanovic - a young lad on a mission
The young Croat Aljiosa Asanovic joined Helsinki from Hadjuk
Split's youth setup during the close season. He came with a
reputation as a midfielder who liked the attacking third of the
field and enjoyed scoring as much he enjoyed assisting. So just
how has he fared over the course of the season? He's managed to
get 17 starts and come off the bench on four occasions as
Helsinki look to develop for the future. Across those games he
has made a credible 37 key passes and 3 assists alongside 32
shots with 4 goals. That should be put in the context of the
squad as a whole where he ranks as follows:
       8th for key passes
       8th= for assists
       10th for shots
       7th= for goals
As expected, whilst doing ok, he's still got some way to go, but
there is no doubt he will improve in the seasons that come and
grow into a key member of the squad.
       Loaners
The players out on loan continue to get valuable gametime that
they would be missing had they remained the club. Particular
praise has gone to Xavier who is on loan at Cartagena and has
notched 14 goals in 15 games - that haul despite having hit a
relatively poor patch of form having set the world alight in
earlier games. He'll be hoping to get the ball in the net in
this weekend's match against AFC Coventry.

       Hellhound howler: Bogeys!!
Bogeys, yes bogeys. We're talking bogey clubs to be precise.
This season, Artic are one of Helsinki's bogey clubs.
We look all the way back at week 1....
A fresh Helsinki side dominated in front of their home fans, but
were defeated by 2 goals as Artic smacked home 6 goals to
       Helsinki's 4.
Shots for 38, goals for 4
Shots against 24, goals for 6
       Goalkeepers - both 20 stoppers
       Forwards - both averaging 16
Now this week, a chance for revenge perhaps? Nope, this time it
was just a 2 - 1 defeat but the tale of the tape was as follows
Shots for 31, goals for 1
Shots against 19, goals against 2
Again, goalkeepers and forwards were even
So overall this season Artic have an 8 - 5 aggregate lead over
Helsinki despite being out shot 69 shots to 43, that's an
impressive 18.6% conversion rate for Arctic (5.4 shots per goal)
and a woeful conversion rate of 7.2% for Helsinki (13.8 shots
       per goal).
       Bogeys.

       Hellhound howler: Round up!
       Double auction
Darren "innovation" Lear has been up to his usual tricks and has
thrown something new at the league this week with two auction
players at the same time! The twist? You can only bid on one of
the players at a time, so no double dipping. After a couple
auctions that fell flat earlier in the season, these are
attracting more interest with three clubs having bid on each of
the players so far and over 140M already committed in aggregate.
       Stadiums
Artic and Sunset have just kicked off their own stadium upgrades
and again Helsinki are thinking about how and when to upgrade
their own stadium. This week's finances put into stark contrast
the impact that the stadium has on clubs as the season
progresses. Helsinki have a healthy capacity at 60,000 and
reaped in 4.8M in gates from one home game, but Kyushu recouped
16.0M from their 85,000 super stadium thanks to the greater
capacity, two home games and their sponsorship deal. The cost of
upgrading is significant though and comes with a reduction in
capacity as the works are completed. The currently plan is to
only complete upgrades near the off season to minimise impact
but this means a smaller capacity than rivals for seasons to
       come!
       Dougan to play and play
22 year old Dougan has joined the club from Wolves and looks set
to be given a starting berth for the rest of the season to boost
his minutes. At the time of writing he needs 12.5 sets of 90
minutes to avoid missing his minutes target and with a minimum
of 2 cup games and 13 league games to come that is definitely
achievable and it should be possible to avoid a hefty reduction
in skills come end of season. When he joined the club he stood
to potentially lose as much as 3 or 4 main skills which would
       have decimated his senior career.

       Hellhound howler: Deal in jeopardy
[move]Who are are the Hellhounds hunting?[/move]
The Hellhounds faithful were briefly elated this week when they
announced the signing of precocious young talent Lyle Lyle
Crocodile Warwick from Acorn Academicals. The Hellhounds have
been doing the rounds tying to secure the top young talent in
the league and having had similar offers or better rebuffed
elsewhere, finally agreed a deal to get Warwick in. Hoorah! (??)
       What was the deal?
The Helsinki transfer team sanctioned a deal that would see 22
and 23 year olds Waratah Bok and Dereck Dougan leave for Acorn
along with a small sack of cash in exchange for the coveted
Warwick. Both are similar players to Warwick, but ultimately
will be comfortably surpassed by Warwick in the years to come
and it was felt a sacrifice worth making.
       What happened next?
Within the Rules of the game, the deal was flagged for further
review and on balance, was deemed to be too one sided and not in
Helsinki's best interests based on the league valuation system
which all clubs need to abide by. For now, Warwick remains with
Acorn and Helsinki will consider their options and whether a
       deal can be revived.
For now, the Hellhound fans will get behind Bok and Dougan who
have managed to set the sage aside and Dougan in particular
       continues to impress.

       Hellhound howler: Top tacklers
Defenders, the unsung heroes. They do the dirty work. They make
sure the goal keeper is protected, they put their bodies on the
line. They do what they can to prevent goals being scored. And
so often, they go unrecognised in their dedication to their
       craft.
Today's article simply asks, who are the top defenders in Div
One this season? The list below shows the top tackler at each
club, with all players exceeding 40 tackles shown.
       Acorn - D_Kerslake 28 tackles, 16tk
Arctic Ricky Stevens 36 tackles, 16tk
       Darlington D_Brun 37 tackles, 14tk
       Dusselldorf Herr_Vittor 37 tackles, 17tk
       Golden Eagles Dustan_Huevo 28 tackles, 18tk
       Helsinki Reece_Evans 47 tackles, 18tk; Daaviski 43 tackles, 14tk
       Kyushu Yakuza Oda_Nobunaga 41 tackles, 19tk
       Man Utd Denis_irwin 31 tackles, 18tk
       Pompey Glen_Johnson 34 tackles, 16tk
       Puskas B_Mayobo 45 tackles, 18tk
       Rael Nerrad Eric_van_Oist 37 tackles, 18tk
       Reykjavik Denis_Merko 38 tackles, 17tk
       Sarnians Rodger_Davies 40 tackles, 17tk
       Sunset Nick_Carter 40 tackles, 16tk
       Thames Ironworks Dani_Octavio 43 tackles, 16tk
       Tranmere Aldo_Sinnix 52 tackles, 17tk; Geordinho 41 tackles,
       16tk
That gives us the current top 5 as follows
       Tranmere Aldo_Sinnix 52 tackles, 17tk
       Helsinki Reece_Evans 47 tackles, 18tk
       Puskas B_Mayobo 45 tackles, 18tk
       Thames Ironworks Dani_Octavio 43 tackles, 16tk
       Helsinki Daaviski 43 tackles, 14tk
Well done to Sinnix who leads the way and is trying his best to
       keep Tranmere's head above water!

       [move]Helsinki howler: Round up![/move]
       Unmanaged jinx
The manager has admitted he has probably got in his own head too
much about unmananged sides in the top flight this season.
During June the club had a 100% record against managed teams,
but failed to win any of their games against unmanaged teams
which were also weaker than Helsinki on paper. Future plans are
likely to see the club concentrate on their own game.
       Karrar - 20 goals - hurrah
Karrar has finally made it to 20 for the season having been
stuck on 19 for what seems like an eternity. It would now seem
that the leading scorers have moved on to 22 for the season with
Kiss and Marcentos seemingly leading the way.
Karrar will also be looking over his shoulder at Helsinki after
recent form has seen HarrisJones hit a purple patch and jump
from 10 goals to 18 goals in the blink of an eye!
       Cup comforts, league discomfort
The club continue to stay in both cups and face a crucial second
leg against Artic next week. A draw or better will see them
through to their first ever Xbox cup semi final which would be a
huge achievement for the club. Sadly the league form hasn't been
of similar quality. Whilst a top half finish looks assured, 6th
is now realistically the highest the club can look to challenge
for and league form may be sacrified as the club look to
progress as far as they can in the cups.

       Hellhound howler: Warwick signs!!!
'Lyle Lyle Crocodile' Warwick finally signed for Helsinki on
transfer deadline day, much to the delight of the Hellhound
fans. The fans needed cheering up after their most dismal
display of the season away to Man Utd and this will go a long
       way to improving their moods.
       Lyle Warwick 17 eng 1 9 16 13 22 1 340 729 880
It is known that the club put their faith in young players and
look to develop them, so this move will no doubt make sense for
all parties concerned. Warwick also fits their desire to have
attacking midfielders to stack the midfield and with 17 passing
on the horizon he is capable of performing at the top level
       already.
Going the other way to secure Warwick's signature were Hillto
and Dougan. Dougan is a similar but older type attacking
midfielder to Warwick. The club wishes both players well in
       their future endeavours.
When will Warwick make his debut? Not until next Wednesday as he
is a suspended for this weekend's game but expect him to play 90
mins in the mid week cup game as a result of that.

       Hellhound howler: Bookies odds
We've been in touch with the OFMC bookie and they have confirmed
the latest odds as we head into the business end of the season.
We start with the league and division one... six games remain
and the Eagles have a slender lead over Sarnians and Kyushu.
Eagles/Sarnians have similar run ins, both play Kyushu which
both puts Kyushu at a disadvantage and means if Kyushu win all
their games they can still take the title!!
       Eagles 5/4
       Sarnians 7/4
       Kyushu 5/2
       Arctic, Nerrad 40/1
Division two is far less exiting for the title with Highland 11
points clear and bookies are no longer taking bets on their
title win. The hunt for the second promotion spot is intriguing
though. Delhi have a good run in, so will be confident on making
the play offs, as will Cartagena who have the points on the
board. But three clubs are within a couple of points so all have
stakes and claims for promotion still.
       Cartagena, Delhi 5/2
       Syracuse 100/30
       Cockrells 4/1
       Flyboys 10/1
       Mendoza 33/1
Xbox league cup. This week saw the quarter finalists confirmed
with Rael Nerrad, Darlington, Helsinki and Sarnians making it
through to the semi finals. With the draw yet to be confirmed
the odds may well change once the two legged semi finals line up
is announced. Sarnians may decide to concentrate on the league
which could yet hamper their Xbox league cup campaign, but that
isn't how the bookies are looking at it.
       Sarnians 6/4
       Nerrad 2/1
       Helsinki 5/2
       Darlington 5/1
And finally but by no least we have the EA knockout cup where
the semi-final line up has been confirmed as Eagles vs Utd and
Helsinki vs Nerrad - games being played at a neutral venue. On
paper, Eagles have the easiest draw and as the league leaders
they are also most fancied for the cup.
       Eagles Evens
       Nerrad 6/4
       Helsinki 2/1
       Utd 6/1

       Hellhound howler: Manager criticises scheduling
"7 matches in 22 days, that's bonkers" Those were the words from
the Helsinki manager in his pre game press conference as the
Helsinki prepare for the 26th league game of the season and
their 39th fixture of the season so far.
"The season is reaching it's pinnacle, the players are already
tired and now clubs are expected to every three days and still
produce a top quality product? Its simply not possible. It's not
realistic for the likes of Sarnians to complete for the league
and cup too. I'm just glad that we are able to concentrate on
the cup games but then is that fair on the other clubs in the
league? We'll be weakened against Kyushu this week and again in
the league next week. Imagine you a top club, hunting down
honours, maybe Helsinki have taken points off you and then we
       hand it to your rivals."
Here's a look at the upcoming fixtures:
Saturday 19th July League Matchday 26
Wednesday 23rd July League Cup Semi Finals 1st leg
Saturday 26th July League Matchday 27
Wednesday 30th July Knockout Cup Semi Finals
Saturday 2nd August League Matchday 28
Wednesday 6th August League Cup Semi Finals 2nd leg
Saturday 9th August League Matchday 29
Some independent observers have suggested that Helsinki's
threadbare squad is catching up with them and they probably have
a point. They have a squad of just 19 going into the final weeks
and Maeta has been injured for a period.
It remains to be seen how the club fare during this tricky
       period.

       Hellhound howler: Transfer shock!
[move]Xavier to leave the club at the end of the season[/move]
Following a leak by an inside source, Helsinki have been forced
to come out and admit that a deal has been agreed at the end of
the season to allow star young forward Xavier to leave the club
at the end of the season.
       Who is Xavier?
He's 18 year old future star striker who Helsinki loaned out to
Div Two outfit Cartagena for the course of this season. In his
first season he has plundered 25 goals and the loan club and
attracted the interest of some of OFMC's top sides. He is on
track to be the top scorer in Div Two. His skill level is
already excellent for his age but he will grow into one of the
top forwards into the league over the next couple of seasons.
Who on earth would Helsinki let him leave?
Well firstly they have two top forwards already with Karrar and
HarrisJones having successful seasons in Div One notching 48
goals between them so far. Helsinki also look to keep a tight
squad and focus playing time on star players. Whilst not
publicly commented it is thought that they felt that allowing a
lower league club develop their own future star was better as a
whole for the league than holding on to a top talent like Xavier
as a reserve striker or future loanee. Also, they offered a huge
       sum of money.
When will the deal be confirmed?
It's understood it will be posted once the final season games
       are completed.
The club notes it appreciates his efforts and wishes the player
all the best in the future.
