Darlington All Stars 5 - 4 United 1908
Wow what a match and 9 goals to boot.
It all started reasonably well with us scoring but when we did
United equalised. This happened twice in the first 25 minutes.
Then disaster hit us a bit as we lost a striker injured.
MacDonald departed and United scored almost immediately after to
take the lead and they added another before half time.
Fortunately for us we got one back to go in at half time 3-4
down but thankfully only a goal in it.
In the second half we switched tactics and it paid off with a
goal to level it and at 4-4 it looked like the game was destined
to end a draw however with the last kick of the game we scored
to get the win.
A hard fought win against a very good side who were up for
taking it from us. We needed everything to win this which is
testament to how good United were and the pressure they put us
under.

Dyer Island Penguins 3 - 7 AFC Coventry
This was a very eventful game! We came away with what looks like
a comfortable win, and lots of goals, but the scoreline doesn't
tell the full story. For a start, it was our hosts who took the
lead after just 3 minutes of the game, but we then managed to
end the half with a 5-1 lead! We were very good going forwards,
but certainly lots to figure out at the back. Thwala_Msibi
scored the opener for Dyer Island, but we immediately pegged
them back when Gary Breen surged forward from the back to hit a
shot that the wind seemed to pick up and guide into the net. Lee
Carsley then gave us the lead just five minutes later, before
Youssef Chippo made it 3-1 after 13 minutes. We'd been hit by an
early shock in conceding and it fired us immediately into life.
Chippo got our fourth before Steve Froggatt got the fifth before
the half time whistle. We could've had six with Robbie Keane's
strike ruled out, but it was about as a complete performance
that I could've asked for.
With a 5-1 lead, we should've kept the second half tight, but
Dyer Island came at us and it made for a massively open second
period. Msibi grabbed another goal for our hosts immediately
after the break, but thankfully we repeated our efforts and
instantly scored with Chippo completing his hat-trick. Sarkar
grabbed another for Dyer to make it 6-3 and they had chances to
pull the deficit even further back but Oggy made some great
saves and we clung in there. Thankfully Froggatt grabbed his
second late on to give us some breathing space.
There was so much to write about in this one, it was a really
fun and open game, and thankfully we escaped on the right side
of things. Player of the Match goes to Youssef Chippo for his
hat-trick, but we had big performances from Steve Froggatt, and
Gary McAllister as well who I haven't actually mentioned in the
round up.
Good game Littlemonkey, this was a really entertaining game!

Helsinki 8 - 3 Thames Ironworks
If it's one thing the manager loves, it's an entertaining game
of football! The teams served up a veritable feast of goals in
this one. Thames struck first and made the Helsinki fans worried
for a little while. Having survived the first quarter of the
match and leading 1 - 0, Thames were struck a blow when Reece
Evans levelled matters in the 24th minute with a deflected
effort. No luck was needed for his second goal two minutes later
when he nodded home for his third goal of the season to put
Helsinki ahead. That brought the home fans to life as they
roared on the team and Hurts found Warwick to make it 3 - 1
before Karrar got his 8th goal of the season shortly after that.
Desperately trying to get to half time but Jemmes found Maeta to
add a 5th goal and make progression to the 2nd round a
certainty. Thames again struck early in the second half to
reduce the arrears but then saw Warwick back his second goal to
get it to 6 - 2. A late consoltation made it 6 - 3 but Helsinki
subs rolled up with HarrisJones and Shephard making it 8 - 3 and
rounding off the scoring. A job well done for the lads and they
progress comfortably into the next round and await the draw. The
fans went home having seen quite a spectacle.

[center]EAGLES REFUSE TO PLAY TO CELLO’S TUNE[/center]
[center]Seven Cellos 0-1 Golden Eagles FC[/center]
Eagles get through their EA KO Cup first unscathed as they beat
plucky Cellos in taut first round game. The hosts tried their
best to outplay the visitors, using longball tactics to bypass
the Finn’s stronger midfield. Both sides almost suffered
calamitous moments early on, first Cellos’ Jo Angyung incepted a
dangerous pass from Heikki Hellström and the Irishman almost
scored an own goal when his poor a back pass went past Simon
Comley and just crept wide of the goal. And Darío Bourrin almost
scored from the resulting corner, but his header was saved at
point blank by the Cellos keeper. Save of the season that was!
Then in the 23rd minute Tallisen Flyn almost scored in bizarre
circumstances, he headed the ball towards the Eagles’ goal,
Rafael Alvarado slipped on the slick surface, but still managed
to tip the effort onto the post. The ball then bounced of
Ecuadorian keeper and went wide, that was some luck! The big
turning point of the match came 6 minutes later when Brin
Bradshaw headbutted Steve Bowen and was sent off! Cellos down to
10 men with that disgusting display from the English defender.
And the Bowen got his revenge, taking advantage of a defensive
mistake, as he nicked the ball and scored just before the break.
1-0 to the visitors! Cellos almost got back in the game, but
Icarus Sparx’s lob was tipped behind by Alvarado. Then Eagles
began to pile on the pressure and it was surprising they were
unable to grab a second. Jussi Härmäläinen had a chance when he
was one on one with Comley, but the Cellos keeper stood his
ground. Angelo Nazari almost scored with a header, but it got
deflected behind by a defender. Julio Xavier and Guillems had
shots saved late on, while Cellos could have drawn level right
at the end. Xavier gave away a desperate foul in a dangerous
area, Jonas Royeng struck the free kick under the wall, it took
a big deflection, but went wide. Alvarado was wrong footed
there, talk about lady luck smiling on the visitors. Amadeus
Rahr did his usual thing of randomly transforming into a striker
and almost scored with the last kick of the game, but the
German’s shot went wide.
A very entertaining game and Cellos can hold their heads high
after giving a great performance despite being down a man for
well over an hour. Eagles are through and we wait with bated
breath to see who they will face in the second round.

[center]SCIMITARS STUN SARNIANS[/center]
[center]Sarnians 3-4 Shymkent Scimitars[/center]
Sarnians may not have fielded a full-strength side here, but
they still boasted talent such as J. Chalebert, Belisarius and
B. Tanaka, however they were un-done by an impressive looking
Scimitars. This was a huge scalp for the Division Two outfit
after a rough few games, not only that it was an action packed
and close match. Nero Shallahs got Sarnians off to a perfect
start, as the Egyptian scored within the first few minutes. But
Mushin Ahmedov soon got Scimitars back on terms, as the Kazakh
striker scored in the 9th minute from Ulan Iskakov’s assist.
Drama then unfolded in the 17th minute, Umar Karimov though he
had gotten the visitors in the lead, but his wonderful strike
was ruled out for something. This incensed the away supporters
to the point where a Scimitars fan, jumped over the rail and
tried to confront the referee, he was promptly apprehended by
the police and escorted away. Scimitars did however take the
lead in the 30th minute, Vlad Mochalov’s pass played in Ahmedov
who grabbed his second goal of the game. Damascus Flux equalized
3 minutes later with some sublime skill, a very promising
prospect he is becoming. E. Staggs then put the hosts back in
the lead in the 35th minute, turning Feras Mansor inside-out
before blasting the ball past stand-in keeper Uwe Spellmann (on
loan from Seven Cellos). 3-2 to the hosts, what a frenetic 5
minutes!
Scimitars hunted for another equaliser in the second half, but
they eventually got it in the 71st minute, Tarek Madibo was
upended by Tanaka and earned his side a free kick in a dangerous
area. Up stepped Mochalov and the Uzbekistani attacking
midfielder scored with a glorious bending shot, Chalebert had no
chance there! All square again!
Ulan Iskakov then put Scimitars back in the lead with minutes
meaning, Ahmedov turning provider this time, a great match the
Shymkent hometown hero is having. 4-3 to the visitors now!
Sarnians tried to find a way back again, but Spellmann made a
couple of fine saves late on, first from Ezra James and then
from Shallahs. It was not to be and the Champions get knocked
out in the first round! Remarkable game and Scimitars march on
to round two.
