CUP FINAL AGONY STRIKES AGAIN FOR EAGLES
Golden Eagles FC 1-2 Kyuhsu Yakuza (AET)
For the second season in a row, Eagles are defeated in the
league cup final, but this game probably turned out to be one of
the cruellest in Dave Rosewell's tenure. Yakuza were the better
side on the day and rained down shots on the Eagles goal, but
Rafael Alvarado and his defence remained resolute. And it ended
up being Eagles who drew first blood, as substitute Campari Torr
scored in the 67th minute from Pavel Chernyshev's long pass.
However, Eagles couldn't hold on their lead as A. Asanovic
scored in the 80th minute despite the keeper clawing the ball
away. Later, TV replays would show that the ref and his
assistant got the call wrong and it is not the first time the
OFMC officials have made a bad call against the champions.
And so the game went to extra-time, again it was all Yakuza and
again Eagles remained firm at the back. That was until the
122nd, as Bryan Prittwick scored with a powerful head with the
last touch of the game. Absolute heartbreak for Eagles and mere
days after losing any chance of retaining their title, they lose
the League Cup final.
"I'm not sure where we can go from here, it has been a rough
week, the lads are devastated, the fans are heartbroken and the
board is unhappy. All we can do now is see out the final two
games of the season and then we'll go from there." Commented an
upset Dave Rosewell.
