AFC Coventry 2 - 0 Cockney Cockrells
Another really pleasing and professional performance from us
here as we controlled large parts of the game and deservedly
came away with the three points. We started brightly and looked
dangerous from the off, with Shepherd causing problems down the
channels early on. Cockney did have a couple of chances of their
own in the opening stages through Denis Staples, but Lucas Haak
was once again on hand when called upon.
We eventually made the breakthrough in the 20th minute when
Shepherd burst past his marker and fired home to give us the
lead. Shortly afterwards Cockney suffered a blow when Staples
went off injured, and we continued to grow into the game from
there. Our second goal came from a really well worked move, with
Enzo Respighi finding Rior Kirkwell, who finished well to double
our advantage. We continued to create chances throughout the
half too, with Paolo Guille going close on a couple of occasions
as we looked to put the game beyond doubt.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with us controlling
possession and creating the better openings. Cockney still had
moments, and Haak made another important save from Cameron Hart
early in the half, but we always looked the more likely side to
score again. Guille in particular was unlucky not to get on the
scoresheet, seeing one effort saved before somehow putting the
rebound wide, before later striking the post after good work
from Mayse. Shepherd was also unfortunate not to add a second
after hitting the bar.
Kirkwell deservedly picked up the Player of the Match award
after an excellent display in midfield, linking play well and
grabbing the second goal. Doyle and Respighi both supported him
really well in the middle, while Atto Mohammed had one of his
strongest games defensively. We finished with 60% possession and
managed 13 key passes to Cockney's 10, while restricting them to
very few clear cut opportunities despite their attacking lineup.

GAME OVER!
Artic Storm 1-0 Golden Eagles FC
Eagles hopes of retaining their title were shattered by Storm as
they suffered only their second league defeat of the season. A
15th minute headed goal from James Leyland dealt an early death
blow in a very even game. Eagles were limited to only 8 shots on
target and Ed Jackson was on fine form to deny the likes of
Pavel Chernyshev and Julio Xavier.
The visitors also weren't helped by substitute Nick Cope being
sent off after only 6 minutes of replacing Diog Guillems. The
Englishman was shown a straight red for a clumsy challenge on
Justin Aymes, it was a bit harsh as there wasn't any malicious
intent behind it. That pretty much put pay to an Eagles
comeback, as it was mostly all Storm for the last 20 or so
minutes.
"Honestly, its gutting and today was yet another game where the
ref made a decision that cost us. Of course we should never have
put ourselves in that position in the first place. However, we
need to keep our heads and gather our thoughts for Wednesday."
Eagles' only hope of silverware now rest on their League Cup
final match against Kyushu Yakuza on Wednesday.
