Easgles 3 - 2 Hellhounds AET (6 - 5 AGG AET)
When it gets to the business end of the season, one week can
make or break a season. The Hellhounds fans fear this week could
break their season. In a week where they signed one of the best
three players in the league (but at some cost), it is bemusing
that it could actually be the week that defines their season. On
Wednesday night they went out of the Xbox cup, thus failing to
defend their crown. It was a close encounter and having taken
the lead and shut up shop with just 11 mins to go, the defeat in
extra time is a bitter pill to swallow.
Then there is the impact of extra time itself. A squad that is
now exhausted for the weekend fixture, again away to Golden
Eagles. That is then compounded by an injury to star player
Shynkarenko and not one but two suspensions to other star
performers Warick and Karrar. So all in all the club have 5
first teamers unable to play due to fitness and 3 unable to play
due to injury and suspension. That leaves just 6 first team
players available and with it an opportunity for players like
Jack Daniels and Di Canio to make their mark in a season where
game time has been at a premium. Defeat at the weekend could
leave Sarnians 4 points ahead of them with 4 to play and winning
the league then becomes a remote possibility.

EAGLES DETHRONE HELLHOUNDS
Golden Eagles FC 3-2 Helsinki Hellhounds (AET)
6-5 on aggregate
What a game! What a battle! After a scintillating 90 minutes and
a gruelling 30 minutes of extra-time, Eagles knocked out the
current League Cup winners. Both sides were out for blood from
the get-go and it was Eagles who drew first blood after 4
minutes, as Juan Álvarez's cross was knocked in by Angelo
Nazari!
The action was back and forth with both sides leaving nothing
behind, the bitter rivalry between these teams driving them on.
Hellhounds eventually managed to equalise in the 27th minute
with a wonderful curling shot from E. Shephard that left Rafeal
Alvarado no chance.
The second-half carried on in very much the same fashion,
neither side giving an inch. Shot after shot rained in, but both
defences and keeper were stalwart. That was until the 79th
minute when Shephard struck again to give the visitors the lead!
However, their lead lasted barely a minute as Álvarez raced down
the left wing before crossing to Pavel Chernyshev whose lobbed
Hiro Hikkara to level things!
With nothing separating the 2 teams after 90 minutes and the
aggregate score tied at 5-5, the game went into extra time. Both
sides had good chances in the first-half of extra time, but
things stayed level as both sides began to tire. Eagles started
the second-half a little brighter and Julio Xavier won them a
corner in the 110th minute. Vilo Fleuss swung it in and
Chernyshev pounced to take his tally to 20 for the season as the
hosts re-took the lead in dramatic fashion! And they managed to
hold onto until the whistle blew. Eagles are through to the
league cup final where they will face Kyushu Yakuza who beat
Rael Nerrad 4-2 on aggregate in the other tie.
Both teams gave everything this match and the stats reflect that
with a mind boggling 34 shots each! These 2 teams will meet
again in the league at the weekend, will either side have
anything left in the tank after an exhausting 130 minutes of
non-stop action?
