SUPER SUBS STEER EAGLES TO VICTORY
Reykjavik Reapers 0-2 Golden Eagles FC
Eagles won a tough battle in the Icelandic capital over the
easter weekend as they moved up to 3rd in division one. The
first half was very back and forth with Reapers having slightly
more chances, but things remained goalless at the break.
Eagles started the second-half brighter and Juan Álvarez's 57th
minute strike looked to have opened the scoring. The ball struck
the underside of the bar, bounced down and wad smothered by the
keeper. However, the goal wasn't given much to Spaniard's
dismay.
The visitors then made a trio of substitutions on the hour mark
and it paid dividends almost immediately. As in the 63rd minute,
Álvarez won the ball off Mariano Bernard, passed it to sub Jussi
Härmäläinen. The Finnish striker then spotted fellow countryman
Taavi Ruusumäki making a run down the right wing and launched
the ball forwards with a pin-point long pass. It was well
controlled by the Eagles Captain, he cut inside, skipped past a
challenge and smashed the ball past Petter Andrewsen!
Ruusumäki almost grabbed a second goal in the 70th minute, but
his efforts from a corner was well saved. Then 2 minutes from
time with Eagles in control, the Finnish defender's pass split
open the defence, putting Angelo Nazari clean through as the
Filipino playmaker put the game beyond the hosts.
Elsewhere Sarnians returned to the top with a win over Dragons,
they are on 42 points. Hellhounds slipped back to 2nd on 41
points following their draw against Nerrad (who drop to 5th on
38 points). As mentioned, Eagles are up to 3rd on 40 points,
Yakuza are 4th, level on points, but the Finnish team has a
superior goal difference.
