Sunset Knights 1-4 Golden Eagles FC
Eagles advance to the EA Knockout Cup semi-finals with a 4-1 win
away to Knights. The home side had surprisingly rested many of
their first-time players, while Eagles were at pretty much full
strength. The visitors took an early lead through Pavel
Chernyshev in the 2nd minute with a lovely long range effort.
And the Russian striker made it 2-0 after 20 minutes, he met
Rodrigo Desábato's cross on the volley that Lev Yashin parried
straight back into his path and Chernyshev had an easy tap in as
the defence went to sleep.
Bryan Prittwick thought he had made it 3-0 with a 40 yard
thunderbolt that hit the underside of the bar, bounced down and
caught by the keeper. However, the ref judge that the ball never
cossed the line. That could have been a contender for goal of
the season! Eagles did grab a third however in the 28th minute,
Darío Bourrin with a fine solo effort.
Taavi Ruusumäki then made it 4-0 8 minutes later, with a great
bit of skill on the turn and shooting first time, the Finn has
been on fire as of late. With Eagles 4 goals to the good at
half-time, Knights needed a miracle to get back into the tie and
they did enjoy a bigger share of the possession and chances in
the second half, but Eagles were happy just to sit back and soak
up the pressure. No doubt manager Dave Rosewell had one eye on
Saturday's league match against Pompey.
Knights did eventually find the back of the net in the 90th
minute, after Campari Torr pulled Jackson Keyes' shirt in the
area and the ref awarded a penalty. Main man Cillian Love (who
had come on as a late sub) stepped up and scored his side a
consolation goal as the game finished 4-1 to Eagles.
Eagles will now face either Nerrad, Hellhounds or Man United in
the semi-finals, which ever time they get drawn against, it will
surely be a tasty game.

Arctic 1 - 5 Hellhounds
Hellhounds progressed to the semi finals thanks to one of their
best results of the season against an Arctic side that has had
the beating of them so far this season. Hellhounds as promised
gave the youngsters a rest with Denke getting a rare start in
midfield to boost their quality.
It was a flying starting for Arctic who took the lead inside 5
mins but it was the decision to play Denke that paid dividends
as a fresh Denke sprung the offside trap and made it 1 - 1 on 10
mins.
Since a woeful start to the season in front of goal,
Shynkarenko's output has increased steadily and he backed up
Denke's early strike with a goal of his own (his 9th of the
season), this time with Denke setting up the goal and get
Helsinki in front. Arctic then shot themselves in their own foot
with Fisher putting through his own net before HarrisJones
grabbed a quick fire brace before half time to make it 5 - 1.
Denke ended the game as man of the match with 2 assists and 1
goal - despite only playing 64 minutes. HarrisJones almost
matched him with 1 assist and 2 goals. Both having excellent
games. That now leaves HarrisJones out on 8 assists - the most
in the team, and 14 goals, just 5 behind Karrar who has been
stuck on 19 goals for some time. [Incidentally - the same has
happened to a number of other top forwards in the league who are
all currently marooned on 19 goals in a four way tie for top
scorer - surely someone will hit 20 this weekend?]
On to the semis we go. Man Utd looks like the easiest draw, but
all four sides in the semis made it there for a reason and we
await the draw with excitement.

Man Utd 0 - 0 (0-0 AET) Cartagena (Man Utd win on pens)
Heartbreak for the Cartagena faithful as they took Utd to extra
time but ultimately fell to defeat in the shoot out. It was a
snore bore draw of a game where United didn't come to play and
Cartagena huffed and puffed but failed to blow any houses down.
As a result, unmanaged Utd progress and Cartagena just have the
league campaign to look forward to for the rest of the season.
