The Reaper Review - Issue 5 - Reapers ready for the big time

Division 2 Domination
Reykjavik Reapers finished a whopping 14 points clear at the top
of division 2 last season from second placed Thames Ironworks.
They were also runners up in the League Cup final, narrowly
losing to Rael Nerrad in a penalty shoot out. Reapers did look
like they might have becaught at the mid point of last season
however, their 13 point lead was demolished to 5 points by
Tranmere Titans. Some shrewd transfers soon turned Reapers'
season around, as Titans began to full back behind, certainly an
entertaining battle for the neutral.
German striker Hannes Gunter (who has been signed from
Dusseldorf Dragons during the season) finished as division 2 top
scorer with 33 goals. Captain Vilo Fleuss was the linchpin in
the middle of the park with 78 key passes (2nd best behind
Titan's Hansi Wimmer) and 14 assists (the best in division 2 by
some margin). While central defensive duo Enzo Fratelli and
Denis Merko (another mid season signing) finished 1st and 3rd in
the top tacklers respectively.
Division 1, here we come!
Reapers look pretty handy on paper for their first season in the
top tier, but surprisingly they have been pretty quiet in the
transfer window. Instead Dave Rosewell is more or less sticking
with the same squad who beat the likes of Kyushu Yakuza in the
league up and gave then division 1 champions Nerrad a run for
their money also. He has re-acquired Ayho Kushimo services from
Yakuza again and has also got 2 young prospects coming through
the ranks. 16-year-old Dutch defender Jordy Van Melis should be
putting pen to paper anytime soon for senior contract. While
young Hungarian defensive midfielder Marius Dzsudzsák should be
following suit soon. The only player leaving the club it seems,
is keeper Amir Sadat through the ATM.
One surprise that caught people off guard was the change in club
captain, Andrei Perebyinis will take over the captain's mantel
from Fleuss, who graciously stepped aside and has been named a
vice captain. As surprising as it was, its shows tremendous
character from the German who is well liked by everyone.
Will this be Perebyinis' time to shine? And could Reapers be a
dark horse for the title? Season 5 kicks of in a few weeks!
