Nuovo Falcone Oil Filter
By: norvin Date: January 23, 2015, 9:58 am
---------------------------------------------------------
I have a Nuovo Falcone which has the complete oil filter
assembly missing. I would be grateful if any one can advise me
where I may buy the inner and outer filter, the tube that
supports them and the spring.
I would also appreciate any advice regarding the external oil
filter, which I believe is made in Germany, and where that may
be bought.

Hi Norvin, and welcome to the forum. I've never seen the oil
filter for sale on eBay, so your best bet may be one of the
Dutch, German or Italian specialist suppliers.
Edit: no sooner spoken than I found this:

There were 2 types of filter used; an earlier one that was made
of monkey's muck metal, and was reportedly prone to breaking up,
and supplying a mix of oil and bits of metal through the pump
and bearings, with disastrous results. The later filter is made
of what looks like nylon, but it's a fairly coarse mesh, and
will catch only the largest particles.
There's an article on the external oil filter here:
HTML http://www.guzzitreff.de/cms/index.php?Modifikationen:Hauptstrom-%C3%96lfilter_by_Fu-Tech
HTML http://www.guzzitreff.de/cms/index.php?Modifikationen:Hauptstrom-%C3%96lfilter_by_Fu-Tech
And here's a Bing translation of the text:
Why an external oil filter?
In the Nuovo Falcone - motor coupling is located in an oil bath.
This oil provides all other engine parts with lubricant. This
technical solution pumped the fine clutch wear, E.g. through the
whole engine. This will lead, actually all points exposed to a
friction on the duration for such parts as valve guide or
crankshaft bearings, subject to increased wear. The original oil
filter is carried out only as a simple screen and thus far too
coarse, as that one could speak of a filter. This version can't
hold back the fine airborne particles. Therefore the idea of a
power filter with a modern oil filter cartridge. When you run
into the main stream, the entire engine oil is cleaned before it
reaches the lubrication points.
The "Oil filter" is discussed for many years by the Falcone
drivers. This problem is however not unknown for many
motorcycles of this period and is by far not only the models
from the House of Moto Guzzi. Oil change intervals were the
result of every 3000 km.
There were and are some solutions dealing with the oil filter.
The first offered to the external oil filter for the NF was my
knowledge of coy Lambrecht.
My first version was based on parts of the Bosch and elbows from
self-made. This worked well.
But the best is the enemy of the good. Because at some point
Helmut Deininger came up with the idea to build a small Japanese
oil filter cartridge with directly flange-mounted base plate.
It liked so much that I built up the records of Wolfgang Humm,
slightly amended. The Panel received two exits. The first goes
to the valve train lubrication with the additional connection
for the inlet valve. The second oil line is connected to the oil
pressure switch connector on the engine block and provides the
entire engine from here with filtered oil. The base plate for
the filter is a unique piece for my purposes so, but so can or
will be made also in modified form on request.
So this design is a full flow oil filter, an intervention in the
motor must be done however. Doing a little plugs in the right
side cover is mounted. This is feasible, but with some work. To
remove the side cover, you must disassemble the ignition and
loosen the camshaft fixing. For tech-savvy Falconisti, this is
certainly not a big problem.
The side cover is removed, the Überduckventil view can be taken
immediately. Is there a "Cup" or does it not? Early models had
none. This "Cup" to the valve to direct the oil from the
pressure relief valve into a cast lead in the housing to the
camshaft. The "Cup" is missing the oil in the housing will do
nicely distributed and only a small part comes to the camshaft.
This insufficient lubrication can lead to damage to the
camshaft. If so no "cups" is mounted, is strongly recommended to
upgrade one. Experienced mechanic can make such on the lathe. It
can be used also for the V models used the. The "Big Sisters"
have the same pressure relief valve with this "bowl". But
beware, it must be twisted.
But now back to the blind plug. Has therefore removed the side
cover, front sits a sleeve which directs the oil in the side
cover. These can be pulled out with a left-hand twist and will
be replaced by a blind plug. Also the O-ring should be used.
Mount again all called, which connect oil pipelines and adjust
the ignition. The external oil filter in the main stream is
finished.
Without this additional measure only the effect of a by-pass oil
filter would be achieved with the plugs. This cleans only the
oil on the way to the tipping lever lubrication. This slightly
longer needed until the 3 liter engine oil are cleaned. Always
better than the original screen and an extension to the main
flow oil filter is possible at any time. A beautiful side stream
filter builds such as Gerd Holzdeppe (g-l.holzdeppe at
gmx.de)
Hopefully, someone else may come along with a parts source.....

The plastic oil filters seen on Ebay cannot be used without the
inner filter, supporting tube and spring, which I do not have. I
have now found the source of the external system described in
the reply by banquo, it is on page 62 of the Pirner catalogue -
Moto-Guzzi-Pirner-Katalog-2014.pdf. A source of many other
parts. Many thanks for all replies.

My German's not much good, but I think they're saying this
replaces the plastic filter.

this info may be a bit late but the plastic filters and base nut
are aermacchi components dont know about spring and tube you
could try aermacchi dealers
