       Rider's seat
By: banquo Date: December 26, 2014, 7:13 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I picked up a spilt and rather knackered spare seat years ago,
along with a cylinder head and some other bits (some scrote
stole the guy's bike, and he was left with the parts).
One of the advantages of volunteering to do the Christmas
security at the plant is that you get access to nice things like
a grit blaster, which although not ideal (fixed nozzle and too
small to move the seat base into the right place), got most of
       the rust off.
I guess most seats will have been as bad as mine underneath,
having spent most of their lives in close proximity to wet foam.
The underside still had most of its paint, but the top was thick
with heavy rust; should have taken a 'before' pic, but too late
       now.... :-[
After blasting it looked like this:

Split by one of the front rubber mountings:

Heavy pitting on the top surface:

Fortunately, being a Nuovo Falcone and not some Japanese bike of
the same era, the seat base is pressed from 1.5 mm sheet, so
       there's plenty of meat left.
The plan will be to get the split welded up, then get it powder
coated before getting the seat rebuilt.
I'd prefer to have an original seat cover, but they're
ridiculously expensive, so I'll probably go for whatever the
local upholsterer can come up with.

Excellent! And suitable use of 'scrote' - one of my favourite
       words.
