       Huub's oil pump conversion
By: steve Date: December 4, 2014, 2:02 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I will mention it to him Banquo.
The NFs coming along some and I have decided to fit a T3 oil
pump in place of the old original thats pretty much worn out.
There a good guide to this on the AV NF site, whereby a gent
called Huub has already done this and has left pics and a few
details etc. I was always a bit sceptical as to the originals
capacity and I noticed, now its in bits etc, that the cam is
lubed from the pressure relief valve being open and oil sort of
runs along a gallery and then drops of a kind of waterfall
looking arrangement. All very simple, but nonetheless effective
providing the pumps delivering at its proper capacity. As said,
mines worn on the gears - no doubt because of dirty oil and so I
have to do something with it.

I'm an idiot; yes I've seen that:
From Huub: I fit bigger oil pumps to my nuovo falcones
with a couple of mods the oil pump from a guzzi twin fits (
       starting with the T3)
those have a bigger capacity and don't wear out so fast ,
because they have needle bearings for the spindles.
the 850 T3 was the first guzzi twin to use the oilpump with
       needle bearings
basically all later oilpumps up to the v11 are similar.
so virually any bigtwin guzzi should be a good donor
       not hard to find either

i think i posted details of the conversion
you must make a couple of bushes , the bolt pattern is
       different.

then you have to modify the oil pump gear
weld up the conus , and make a straight hole.
not very difficult, just slightly scary to start welding on your
       nice oil pump gear

Thanks Banquo, much appreciated. Ive managed to source a T3 from
Gutsibits and so Im in business. Im also fortunate in that I
have a friend who,s a retired 'Rolls Royce' engineer and he
continues his one time trade as a hobby, makes working model
steam engines etc and they're really something to behold. Anyway
he is going to fix up this pump for me. When you say 'weld up
the conus' Im assuming you mean to infill the cone in the
driving pinion and to therefore bore it out square , is this
       correct please ?

Take a look at the NL link in "Links". Some good oil pump stuff
       in there.

basically fill the (conical) center hole of the gear with weld
and drill a new ( straight ) hole.
you might want to file a new slot for the woodruff key,
the gear is kept on with a nut, so the fit between the gear and
       the shaft is not critical
If you've got both pumps side by side it is obvious what needs
       to be done.
