gear selector drum out of position
By: guzzied Date: July 11, 2025, 3:19 am

I lost all gears on a long ride to the south of france, now home
again. Taken the side cover off and I can see the selector drum
pins tucked away behind the clutch assembly, as if the drum has
turned out of position by nearly 180 degrees; Any help most
       appreciated.

Pulled clutch assembly off, selector drum seems not out of
position, but should have 3 pins on its end, but only now has 2!
one is probably floating around in the sump!

       That doesn't sound good.
No help to you at all, but there was a selector drum on eBay for
ages a few years back, and although I'm a sucker for buying
parts on a 'just in case' basis, I had never heard of anyone
having an issue with one, so let it pass.
You could try Schubert (SMS) in Germany who seem to have
cornered the market for parts, Retro in Abbadia, just along from
Mandello, or does it look repairable?
Sorry for the tardy reply - pretty much nobody uses the forum
these days, so I don't often check it....

Thanks. I have an engineer mate, we found the pin and industrial
loc-tited it in; Next problem, the clutch basket snapped a tang
off on retightening - now made a special tool!, and said mate
luckily can weld cast iron. it's a funny thing to make from cast
iron, steel would have ben much more sensible.

Good that you got the drum sorted.
Cast iron's fine for the clutch basket, but as you discovered,
       needs handled with some care.
Would have been easier and cheaper than steel I expect...
