New boy on the block

Hello gents,
I'm recent recruit to the ranks of NV owners, with a 72 Civile
in red.
Already had good advice from Dinko and the pass on of
information.
A question on oil filters please. When I changed my oil, the
filter was a single small paper type and not the original two
element plastic type. Is the use of this paper type a known and
accepted solution and if so what make and UK source please? If
not, then where can I order the original two element plastic
ones? I have looked at the Dutch and German web sites but no oil
filters are visible.
Appreciate your help
Pete

Morning Pete,
Bizarrely, your post didn't show up as a new post, and I just
found it completely by accident, so apologies for the extremely
poor welcome.
The paper filter isn't standard, and there are mixed views over
whether it's an improvement or a very bad thing. The lubrication
system wasn't designed for the back pressure of a paper filter,
and is notoriously leaky, especially around the crankshaft bush
in the timing case. Some say that the additional back pressure
leads to more leakage, and starvation of oil to key places.
The stock filter is a two-piece strainer (not a filter as such)
and is common to the Aermacchi 250 and 350. I've seen them
advertised, used, on eBay under the Aermacchi description.
There's an earlier metal strainer which is to be avoided, as it
can break up and destroy the engine.
The later one is nylon, or similar.
Apologies again for not replying at the time.
Blame createaforum, which is supposed to list all unread posts,
but clearly doesn't....
