       Fork overhaul
By: Mjoinson Date: March 2, 2017, 2:18 am

While trying to change the steering head balls following an MOT
fail I've discovered that my fork stanchions are pitted. Also
had an advisory on poor damping. Debating whether to try and
dismantle them myself or get someone else. Looking at the Paul
Friday guide he talks about the seal carriers as being fragile
and replaceable and the bushes being replaceable. Anyone know
where I could get those (and the damper tool?). I can see
       stanchions and seals from Gutsibits.
       thanks
       Martin

weak damping is how they are supposed to be, you can fit higher
viscocity oil, but basically the forks are undampenend.
you should be able to dismantle the forks without special
       tools,
to remove the seal carriers i use a old piece of bicycle chain
as a chain wrench do use a piece of rubber to avoid protect the
       carrier .
a friend uses a piece of automotive multi belt.
you might need to use some heat, they can be seriously stuck

+1 on the damping. I had an advisory on front fork damping a
couple of years after I got it, and was advised by NLM, the
supplier, that there was no hydraulic damping provided, and the
oil was only for lubrication. The MOT station accepted that
       e-mail as verification.
       "Jake
The front forks of all NF are without any form of damping by
design, they cannot therefore be reasonably failed for same by
any MoT Station. The Workshop Manual will support this note in
       case of need
       ATB
       Stuart"
By the way, if you mean the tool that unscrews the interior of
what would have been the damper if they had one, mine is just a
but of round bar, with a tee-piece welded to one end, and a bit
of (IIRC) M8 stud welded to the other. It's part number 10 is

Do the early Guzzi twins have fork dampening ? They appear to
be close to the Nuovo fork in appearance, but I haven't done any
       measuring.
