Preparing for a Long Trip

Hello forum,
I'm planning an 800km trip. I think it should be doable in 10-12
hours.
Do you think that you can do this on a falcone? I've heard from
mechanics that this type can't do long distances because of the
old engine.
How can I prepare my engine for the trip?

Welcome,
based on my personal experience with the NF, I would say that he
can cover any distance;
However, I would not recommend the highway since the NF cruise
speed is around 80-90 Km/h;

It's not easy to suggest anything, because we don't know what
condition your bike is in, but if it's in good condition, a
normal service and oil change should be all you need. People get
concerned about doing 800 km in one trip, but you probably do
thousands of km between normal servicing, and you don't expect
anything to go wrong, so if there's nothing wrong with the bike,
and your tyres, chain and brakes are in good order, just fill it
with petrol and go. Doing 800 km in one trip is no different to
riding 800 km over several weeks.
Good advice to avoid the highways though!

I think there will be problem with the NF if the bike is in
acceptable condition..... but I think you will not be able to go
800 km in 10 - 12 hours. The average speed would be about 80
km/h without tank stop, drinking, eating and stretching the
body! You must be very fit and trained and the day will be too
short.....
Not the NF will collapse, you will do this part ::)

I'm counting on 12 hours for the trip. I thought that the
falcone can do 100km/h. I will have a 31T sprocket installed.

I confirm that the cruise speed average of the NF is 90 km/h;
however is not excluded speed peaks for short time (100/110 and
even more)

based on user manual ,Moto Guzzi declares: 4,1 liter for 100km (
tank 19 liters)

I chatted briefly with Kris by email, but I'll share the same
stuff here (or at least an expanded version).
My main point was that the NF isn't really suited to the
autobahn/ motorway/freeway. In my experience, although it can
cruise at 95-100kph it really doesn't have much left at those
speeds, so overtaking or any emergency maneuvers involving rapid
acceleration are out of the question.
I agree with Kater that the bike is up to it, but the rider will
need to be ready for those distances. I regularly ride all day
(both on my NF and my other Guzzis) and it is hard work. You
can't expect to average 100 kilometres every hour - it just
isn't going to happen. You will need to take breaks to bring
life back into you buttocks, to refuel, to eat etc. If you
average 70kph you will be doing well. Expect to spend at least
12 hours in the saddle - probably more.
I also doubt you will see anything like 4.1l per 100kms. My
experience is that at the road speeds you're talking about, you
will be lucky to get 6.5l per 100kms. In other words, keep
filling up whenever you get the chance, rather than risk the
chance of running out.
