       Gearbox sprocket replacement.
       By: cryospeed1 Date: January 29, 2016, 9:33 am

The cap ring nut sitting outboard of the gearbox sprocket will
not move using my home made adaptor or the hammer and punch
routine. This is despite heat and lots of swearing. I wanted a
castle nut socket OD 50mm ID 40mm which I cannot get locally .
The nearest I can see on Ebay is one for a Honda made by laser
tools it is a Honda one Laser part no is a laser 6178. That
should be here next week and the reason I want a socket is to
use my air impact driver. I will keep you posted if it fits and
works as I am sure others will hit this problem. In the meantime
I need to work out how to stop the Kick start spring from
fouling the chain. I was looking for an 80mm od washer to slide
over the kick start shaft between the chain nad the spring. The
washer is elusive and Ii wonder if anyone else has come up with
       a solution.

There was a long thread on that nut removal on the Facebook
       group.
For the washer, you can make one with a hole saw and a bit of
       alloy plate

The laser castle socket for Honda suspension arrived today and
it is a perfect fit on the castle nut outboard of the engine
sprocket. It is a laser tool No 6178 which I got off ebay for
£22.50. It also fits the lock ring on the flywheel. It is 1/2
inch drive and the nut was off in a few seconds using my impact
driver. No need to worry about being in gear or anything. Hope
       this helps someone.

That's a really good find Cryospeed; how on earth did you make
the connection between a Honda suspension tool and the Guzzi?
       ???
Good price too, and a lot cheaper than the flywheel tool from
       Italy!

Cos I am a boring sod.! I measured the outer and inner diameters
and the size of the prongs. Put a search in Google for castle
nut socket and compared the dimensions till I found one that
fit. Fortunately the weather is bad so I dont get out much.

I bought this tool, perfect fit for the flywheel ringnut and the
kickstart nut. I had to fit a new chain and sprockets, with the
laser tool and an impact wrench the whole thing was complete in
less than 2 hours - top find
