Hi,
Just joined and I wanted to say Hi! I have a Nuovo Falcone, ex
who-knows-where, but painted in what appears to be Italian olive
drab. A 1970ish model, and currently on its second trip to
southern France from the UK - I return on Friday taking about a
week of meandering the 800 miles to Calais, then home to
Lympstone, Devon. I bought the bike about 3 years ago and it is
a superb tourer, perfect for the slightly slower pace when using
the smaller roads in France and elsewhere.
Just a query - all the comments on handling I had seen before
buying the bike rated the handling highly. Indeed, my bike
handles well on its new Dunlops, but I wonder if others might
have noticed a slight understeer at low speed (the bike has to
be held out of the turn, it tries to turn quicker than one might
have desired), neutral steering from 25-60mph (takes bends
without even thinking about it), then needing to be "ridden"
round the bends at higher speeds. Or is it just me.....? Any
comments welcome.

I haven't really given the handling much thought. Mine rides
well until the knobbies on my Shinko 244's start to squirm,
which can be a bit disconcerting.
It's great to hear that you are touring. How about some photos
on your return?

Hello and welcome!
Mine seems to handle all right. A bit lumbery perhaps. I had
awful cornering with a part worn Metzeler Perfect on the back
and worn out Heidenau K36 on the front, cured with a new pair of
chunky Heidenaus.
Worth checking alignment of the wheels, bearing condition, and
of course tyre pressures.
Oh, and the head bearings; I made the mistake of fitting
stainless balls, and they collapsed!

.....and now back in the UK after a 2300 mile tour. Great fun
with improved handling after I added a few more psi to the tyres
(doh!). On checking the front brake just now I felt a slight
"notch" in the steering bearings and have freed them a tad (I
should probably replace them) - this would also have contributed
the the slightly less-than-perfect steering.
Must give the bike a quick ride round the block to check all is
well. Many thanks for the replies, very helpful. Oh, no photos
as I broke my camera the day before I left for France. Next
time.....

2,300 is an impressive trip on an old and slow machine. There
are some posts about the head bearings on here, somewhere.
Surprisingly, they are 1/4", and not the 6mm I made the mistake
of fitting. Mty races were fine, but the balls rust, as they are
exposed.
