Tool box lock
By: Bruno Date: March 15, 2015, 4:23 pm

Went for a ride today and when I got home I found one of my tool
boxes open and my tool roll gone.Went back and found the roll
OK,but the 'catch' which had been bodged up by a previous owner
was gone.
Does anyone know who has original locks available?

Thre are at least two types. I've seen them with big brass
faces, about the size of a Yale lock, and smaller chromed ones.
The chrome ones must be available new, as mine came with 2 brand
new ones, complete with a pair of keys for each.
I might have one of the brass ones around somewhere, but may
have been drilled to get it off.
Got a photo?

Have phoned Gutsibits and they say they are not available at the
moment. However,I have looked on eBay under 'cabinet locks' and
there are loads that will do the job,of various sizes, prices and
quality. There are even stainless steel ones.I will have a better
measure up tomorrow but am sure I can get a pair that will fit.

There are the same as I fitted but had to cut down the tang
slightly. Easy done and work well.

Hello,
Further to earlier mention, I think i have found the tool box
keys available from lockdoctor.biz under Metal filing cabinet
key in the range of 92001-92400...
Search box on the site.
I have not yet looked closely to see if the number is on the
outside of the locks.
The two are different numbers from each other.
I see they sell the locks too in case you need them.
Apparently three numbers in the range of 001-400 would be on
the lockface.....(ie.last three numbers).my keys end in 90 and
99 and all the 5 numbers are on the key.
Worked out £7.14 total for the two incl. delivery. So we are
talking about cut keys here, not just blanks. I hope this is
useful to someone.
Got both keys very promptly and they work fine.
They have a good site which is easy to investigate..it would
appear these tool box locks would be under Metal filing cabinet
locks.
Note: this post previously under a possibly inappropriate
heading and re posted here as I have just noticed these posts.
Best to all.

Thanks David; only one caveat though. I think these keys are for
the aftermarket locks (which are just cheap cabinet locks) and
not for the original locks fitted, which are more complex.
