       Another Tito cast off
By: churchbury Date: February 3, 2015, 2:34 pm

The year this NF was exported to Yugoslavia Tito was president
elect for the 6th time. He was not a bad leader and it was sad
that after his death the power vacuum resulted in the Balken
war. The quater master in those days obviously had good sense
as they imported many NF's. But after the war batches of NF's
came out of hiding and thats how this one ended up in eBay sold
as seen for spares of repair.

That was 2012. After a winter rebuild it won a couple of prizes
at shows, but the shake down continues, by 2015 I am rebuilding
the engine a 3rd time due to gear box issues and administering I
hope a final solution to the chain adjuster problem. I have
quite a lot of left over spares so give me a try if you are
looking for bits. If you have anything you want to dispose of
       please also let me know.
The internals of the engine was featured in Classic Bike by Mick
Duckworth in one of his Great Engines in Bits articles.
It is in white as I believe that was the colour for the
presidental escort and as a tribute to Tito.

That's some transformation! Looks good in white.
I think these boxes must be unique to the Yugoslavian bikes; the
Italian ones are more rectangular in shape, but I like the semi
       teardrop shaped ones.
I was lucky enough to pick up a pair off tonya.

One thing I notice in my anally retentive manner is the minor
variations between models. We had a whole pile of them arriving
in the UK last year, but even they weren't all the same.
Tonya's had what looks like a longer rider's seat on it, and it
looks like your one might as well. Some had knee pads on the
tank, that I originally thoughts were just glued on, but no,
they had steel flanges fitted to slip the pads over, and yours
doesn't have them, so they clearly weren't all like that. I got
the fairing off Tonya's bike, and it was fitted with indicators
and blue lights, but others weren't, and then of course there's
the panniers, which we never see outside Yugoslavia. As far as
I've seen, all the Italian ones are basically the same, apart
from the colour variations between Militare, Carabinieri and
Sahara (and maybe Fire Department?). I can see why someone might
have specified a longer seat, as the stock one's very far
forward, and I sit on the back of mine.

The panniers found on Ambassadors and Eldorados look
       similar.Same era.

How right you are; I'd never seen one with them on. Only the
later glass fibre bags. Trims are different, but the same top
       mounted fastening.
