The New Writing Contest
DIR By: Xephim
Date: June 9, 2016, 10:01 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Seems like a good for another writing contest.
For this contest, take your favorite song and turn it in to a
story. You will be judged upon how creatively you interpret
that song and make it into something of your own. The title of
your work will be the title of the song. It does not matter
what kind of music it is. Just as the last one was judged,
spelling and grammar will be a factor to whether or not you will
emerge victorious, though if the story is well written enough,
then a few mistakes can be overlooked.
The due date will be July 30 with an assortment of games as the
prize.
There must be a minimum of four entries for there to be any
winner. Less than that will result in the cancellation of the
contest.
update: It occurs to me that just choosing a song title and
making a story isn't much of a challenge. To make the contest a
bit more interesting and all that, the more themes from the song
or the lyrics included, the better your odds of winning are.
In addition, since the final due date isn't until 7/30, entries
will not be judged until that time. This would mean that you
can edit your entries up until that point. This does not mean
that you can edit and resubmit your entries endlessly. You will
each have a total of 5 re-submissions. After each time, add a
not with a date tat the end of your submission. Each time will
have a separate note. However, if you are confident that your
story is the best that it can be, put a note at the bottom that
says "Final Submission." Once that is done, you can not alter
your entry. Exceeding the number of re-submissions or altering
your entry after you say final submission will result in your
disqualification.

-Kirisute Gomen-
The light of flame pierced the dark shroud of night, trees
towering above, blocking out the graceful moonlight. The
serenity of the falling leaves, so quiet you can hear them hit
the floor. A candle lay on the floor next to a leather and cloth
sleeping bag, a man - light frame, with no hair with a sort of
branding on the back of his head, too dark to make out the
pattern - lay there. next to him a pile of clothing and armour;
golden trimmed, a high ranking officer of a nearby clan of
samurai by the looks of it.
I awoke to the sound of clashing metal and the neighing of
horses in the distance, the sun shining through the leaves made
it easy to see the tracks of hooves, to which i followed.
Following the trail, i notice the feint hint of blood next to
the tracks, the rider must be injured. Coming to a clearing i
see a man covered in blood, his horse no longer breathing with
an arrow through it's heart, and two other samurai standing over
him.
One of the samurai - holding a pike - stands watch while the
other begins to draw his blade and slowly place it onto the now
sobbing man. Before i can act, a clean slice takes the man's
head clean off, as if he were made of butter.
I draw my sword, and show myself to the murderers, the
sword-bearer begins his assault as the other laughs madly. With
a closer look i see these men are of my own clan, but mercy
should not smile on them now. I duck under his first slash and
tear through his stomach, finding the weak spot of his armour.
He falls to the ground. Time appearing to stand still as his
associate looks in horror, before taking his horse and riding
off, leaving a trail of dust in his wake.
As i make my way back to my camp, i am stopped by a couple more
of my clan mates. They ask me to come with them, the shogun
seeks audience with me. I hesitate, but i have no other choice.
We arrive at the village, and the town is cheering, i see smoke
and hear the beats of war drums. This can only mean one thing -
an execution. Two burly men drag me off the horse, strip me of
my weapons and armour, and proceed to tie a rope around my arms.
The crowd grows hungry for the blood of their traitor, and it
would appear that it is my blood they want.
Kneeling facing the crowd of 40~ people, i await my doom. The
shogun announces, "This man has murdered his kin. This man has
disgraced his clan. This... monster... has attempted to scar my
honour. For that reason, he will face fate."
Cold steel embraced my neck, then is gently pulled away. Silence
falls, birds and bugs stop their song. Fires of pure hatred
stand still. I am ready, guilty for avenging an innocent man. My
mistake lies with my honour. Only thieves and monsters survive
this world. Fire begins to roar, the birds begin to beckon my
fate. The end is near. The end is neigh.

I will be doing my story on the song Faded, by Alan Walker. I
will be taking influence from the video itself, not the music.
Listen to the full song here:

(This is Grizz btw)
Faded
There was a boy. His name was Shahab. After Shahab was born,
there was a virus outbreak. Somehow, he survived. Shahab had to
raise himself, not knowing that anyone else had ever existed.
His memory was... faded.
~13 years later~
Shahab was 14 years old. He had found something new. A city. It
had a sign, Atlantis. Abandoned, not a living soul inside.
Shahab found some clothes in a building with a skeleton at a
counter. He realised, there were other humans once. Shahab kept
looking around the abandoned city, and found many things. One of
them was a backpack, and the other was a very interesting thing.
A computer. Shahab decided to take them with him, and found a
huge building.
There was blood dripped all over the walls, and weird computers
next to ruined beds. He decided to call this place home. It was
fun to jump down the broken flight of stairs. Then, he found a
room. Something seemed very familiar. There was a woman's
skeleton in a bed. The door said: Melissa Salehi.
Shahab realised something. He remembered that from birth, his
name was Shahab Salehi. That... was his mother. Shahab couldn't
handle the pain inside. It was too much. He had nobody who loved
him alive anymore. then he spoke to himself for the first time.
He asked, "Why did everyone die?"
Shahab ran all over America to find anyone who was alive.
"Please, just anyone."
He had spotted something. A building, with something inside. It
was moving.
Shahab ran inside and yelled, "WHO ARE YOU?!"
A woman stared into his eyes, petrified. She looked at him
closely, then looked in her mirror. "Your sister." Shahab was
shocked. "Grace?" he asked, slowly. She replied, "Shahab."
Grace found some food and shared it with Shahab, who was
starving, after a week with no food.
"I was lost," Shahab said, "and my memory was completely faded."
"I was six when you went missing," Grace explained, "and my
memory is fine. Ask me any questions you'd like."
Shahab proceeded to ask questions about his life and family, and
why he was so lost. It was a depressing evening for them.
"Hey," Shahab said the next morning, "I'm going to continue my
journey."
His sister was petrified. "What happens if you get killed out
there?"
Shahab replied, "Don't worry. I'll be fine."
~The end~
So that's pretty much it. I just was thinking about the music
video, then i drifted off the topic. I then realised that it
needs to be about the song so I made a few adjustments last
night going along with the lyrics. Hope you enjoyed :D
