Life... and other stuff

I have received numerous messages recently about the decline of
NTS so I felt it was time to address it.
Two days ago I strongly considered shutting NTS down for good. I
no longer have the time, energy, or desire to maintain the
server as I should. As a server owner, there are many things
that I am obligated to do on a daily basis and I just can't
right now.
However, this does not mean that NTS is unable to prosper. The
server owner is not responsible for player activity. It's not
that I don't care about the server, it's just that real life
things take priority, not to mention that I've been playing
Terraria for 3+ years and I honestly have zero interest in the
game at this point.
Some of you have found new homes on other servers and that is
fine with me. Sometimes people send me messages saying they are
sorry for leaving or going to another server, but I want you all
to know that, that is not necessary. I have always told people
that NTS is not a cult and you are free to come and go as you
please. No reason to feel bad about it.
However, I will correct you when you say that most of our staff
has joined other servers, because this simply isn't true. Some
of the newer staff has joined other servers, but 90% of our high
ranking, official long-time staff, no longer plays Terraria,
myself included. You have to remember that this is an old game,
and as with many games, it gets boring after a period of time.
People move on, people have lives.
Regardless of what happens with the server, I have built lasting
friendships with some of you and for that I am truly grateful.
My only goal when I opened up NTS to the public was to create a
friendly community where people can make new friends and have
fun in the game.
There are many ways that you can help NTS remain active if you
still want to call it home.
[*]Voting - Voting for the server at www.terraria-servers.com is
the best way to ensure that new people continue to join the
server. Voting daily helps keep NTS on the front page so that
new players can see it. You can vote once every 24 hours, no
Steam login is required.
[*]Network - Spreading the server to friends is another great
way to help the server remain active. Bring your friends,
family, bring your dog for all I care (lol).
[*]In-game - Doing things in game to ensure that the map remains
playable is another great way to contribute. Even if you are not
staff, you can do grief sweeps, check for hackers, ensure that
chests are filled and working properly, etc.
Please do not complain to me about server population anymore.
NTS was never created to become popular, or to be filled with
tons of people at all times. The Terraria community in itself is
dying, and there is nothing to be done about that. My suggestion
is just to do what you enjoy. Find another game, find another
server, whatever floats your boat.
I love you all and I wish you nothing but the best. <3

@all, Server is not shutting down. Like nalah said, our
priorities changed and yours will too eventually. I've been in
many gaming communities and watched each one slowly die, and
watched other gaming communities die. Everyone grows up, the
game changes, the game dies, there are other games that are more
entertaining.
Usually from my experience, the leaders would find the rightful
people to hand the torch down to carry on the
clan/group/community. But is not always necessarily the case
with every community. Nalah's Terraria Server, as said already,
was not meant to be competitive or be as popular as it can. Have
fun, make friends. Simple. And even play other games together
with the friends you made.
The torch will stay with Nalah. Not that we don't believe anyone
is capable. It is something she enjoys, and will hold dear to
her heart. Don't feel we have neglected the server or the
players in anyway. It was only a matter of time. Server
re-opened 2 years ago after me and nalah played together for
quite a bit. Just for fun, I had no idea that she had it opened
a long time ago before. It was interesting and fun to run one. I
never believed it would gain activity over time considering the
only way we put the server out there was through
terraria-servers and tserverweb. The life of a community is
driven through loyalty, friendliness and invitation. The
Owners/Leaders are just there to provide, moderate, and react to
community requests. We will be here regardless, even if it is
only us 2 playing on the server, because thats how it all began.
